INCREASINGLY LEFTIST KANSAS CITY STAR LOSING TOUCH WITH LOCAL READERS AS PARENT COMPANY STOCK FALTERS?!?!

After an election where endorsements from the editorial board were universally rejected in a low-turnout vote. Kansas City's largest daily newspaper seems to be doubling down on their "progressive" opinions that seem out of step with readers from the urban core, the suburbs and nearby rural areas.

Apropos for Sunday, here's the call and response regarding headlines . . .

KC still wasn’t ready to elect a black woman mayor, but Canady knocked down some barriers

This myopic, crybaby screed isn't even one of the most thoughtful social media posts we've seen today. Instead it comes off like sour grapes and gives far too much credence to a candidate who only garnered 13 percent of the vote. Yes, Alissia Canady earned a great deal of promotion from MSM but as far as her tenure on council . . . Carol Coe and Sharon Sanders Brooks were far more innovative during their time on the 26th floor. Admittedly, we respect Ms. Canady for her stance on MLK Blvd and the airport BUT she could have done far more for her district and the city if she would have served a second term.

More sadness after the vote . . .

Pre-K in Kansas City may rise from the ashes of defeat. Here’s how

Kansas City voters said NO and even The Star rejected this idea but the newspaper has never shied away from more taxes for unproven programs.

‘Walking Wall’ artist on timing of his Nelson-Atkins piece: ‘You can’t ask for better’

At the very least, this slanted editorial informs us that the self-important display of rocks is really nothing more than protest art against Prez Trump now partially funded by taxpayers. Real talk: Democratic leaders aren't going to stick their neck out for immigration reform and this is an issue the Prez Trump wins over and over to the dismay of far left activists. Nevertheless, The Star stands with artsy demonstrations rather than nearby neighbors who view the promotion as an annoying distraction.

And so we ask our blog community . . .

AS THEIR CORPORATE SUPPORT CRUMBLES . . . IS THE KANSAS CITY STAR BECOMING NOTHING MORE THAN A RADICAL LEFTIST PROMOTIONAL RAG?!?!

Don't get it twisted, this isn't a right-wing attack. TKC entertains the crackpot ideas of anarchists, libertarians, radical feminists, animal rights activists and green party denizens. This is mostly a question of branding and how a local company behaves in what is clearly a time of crisis.

You decide . . .

  2. You have to read the Star like Russians read Pravda in the days of the USSR: between the lines. Often it's more important what has been left out of a story than what has been put into it.

  8. JUST THE FACTS MA'AM

The editorial board is responsible for destroying The Star. In other words, a small group of white liberal Kansas residents have crushed the employment/retirement plans for the majority of Star employees who work hard.

Today, The Star largely outsources their main news section, as demonstrated by looking at the bylines. Once you glance past the front page, most of the main section is filled with ads for miracle cures, hearing aids, and other assorted quackery.

The physical paper is so small and outdated, it's truly a wonder that anyone still subscribes. I think there are only 2 houses on my street that still have it delivered, and both are elderly residents stuck with a bad habit.

The only ones buying McClatchy stock are hedge fund types who've served as corporate loan sharks for the company or those positioning for a liquidation. It's even possible that McClatchy is being kept alive as a propaganda client for the intelligence agencies.

Bottom line; they'll still declare bankruptcy, the court will allow them to discharge their retirement obligations, and former Star employees who rely on McClatchy for a pension will be left with little to nothing, while California executives get golden parachutes.

  9. With probably more of the KC Star newspapers delivered in Johnson County versus the rest of the world you would think that they would have a strong focus on the values of Johnson County. I know it is a Kansas City newspaper but the readership is more JC than KC. If the news reported focused more on that then their readership would increase but these dingbats just seem to want to bite the hand that feeds them. Look at where the advertisers target their ads, JC. NFM, Target, Crowley Furniture, all have merchandise that is focused on JC but distributed with the KCS.

  10. Does anybody know anybody who subscribes to the Star? I know Jack Possinger does and that is all I know of. I use to see it in waiting areas of some office building but not seen it in years in such. When I moved to where I am now 19 years ago I never started delivery of it thats how far back I thought it was no longer relevant to me.

  12. Pre-K has been shown to have no effect on kids after a handful of years. Around the third grade, kids who have gone through Pre-K and kids who have not gone through Pre-K are indistinguishable academically and behaviorally. Just like Head Start, which however seems to have become immortal.

  14. The Star employees are so insulated by like minded liberal ideologists that they probably don't even realize they're out of touch with most readers and
if they do, they don't really give a damn.
