HISTORIC KANSAS CITY FOLLY THEATER FALLING DOWN THANKS TO OLD & BUSTED DOWNTOWN INFRASTRUCTURE!!!

Despite claims of a so-called "renaissance" inside the loop, underneath it all the foundation of this real estate scheme is collapsing.

A longtime treasure of the downtown loop is once again in jeopardy. Checkit:

Kansas City: KC’s historic Folly Theater hit with hefty repair bill of more than $100,000

Deets:

The historic theater is still going strong following some impressive renovations. The nonprofit agency that owns the venue, the Performing Arts Foundation, raised $2.5 million for a recent capital campaign.

But in November, the place many refer to as “Kansas City’s Carnegie Hall” was dealt an unexpected blow.

A leaky fire sprinkler pipe in the basement created a huge mess and left the nonprofit with a repair bill exceeding $100,000.

“They had to replace it. We think it was the original pipe from 1900,” Tallis said.

The repair costs are not covered by insurance or the funds raised in the recent capital campaign.

  1. $100k is a drop in the bucket compared to the millions that have been flushed down the jazz museum. And the Folly actually draws audiences.

    1. It draws audiences because no negroes go there.

  2. Wrong. It draws geezers. Geezers aren't relevant in the least.

  3. Serious question why doesn't this count as an insured loss? Unexpected pipe burst sounds like a casualty to me. And why not the capital campaign mentioned?

[And now to make this comment fit in here: Geezers. Fags. Your mom. Clay Chastain. I hate bicycles. Close the border. Don't rename paseo. &c. &c.]

  4. You know it's interesting how buildings in Europe are hundreds of years old and still standing while being used every day. But here in the great land of the United States if it's 60 or 70 years old it has to be torn down and done away with.

Heathrow Airport in London is over 70 years old and no talks at all of tearing it down all and replacing it. KCI does not come close to handling the air traffic Heathrow does. They refurbish and remodeled as needed and added to as needed. But heck they only have to handle 67 million or so passengers a year compared to the measly 5 million at KCI.

Something to ponder here. If we have 5 million people go thru the airport a year if they all had to pay a $300 dollar use fee each time, we could pay for this new airport in a year and all those who cry that we need the new airport can be the ones that really foot the bill.

Then maybe Kansas City would have some money to spend on the things that really matter around here,

  11. So let me get this straight, a building pipe breaks and somehow downtown infrastructure is to blame?

    No. It's not.

  13. Since Lucas and Reed are so interested in historical entertainment venues, surely they will be as quick to help out the Folly as they were the Gem/18th and Vine.
