¡¡¡Good Hombre Dave Helling Champions Kansas City Latino Civil Rights At City Hall!!!

Actually, the preferred nomenclature is Latinx now among the NEXTGEN but we still admire the thought and history contained in this column . . . Even if it pushes petty identity politics on a community that has changing demographics and is spread out throughout KCMO and unable to participate in this town's backward council district geopolitics.

Why hasn't KC elected a Latino to the City Council in almost a generation?

She is not an American citizen, even though since age 5 the only home Frida Sanchez, 19, has known is Kansas City. Sanchez, a DACA recipient, is working with The Kansas/Missouri Dream Alliance to encourage young Latinos to get out the vote.

  1. Maybe Mexicans haven’t been elected because they are too honest and ethical to be a City Clowncilperson.

  4. I'd like to believe Latinos don't get elected because they don't want to be a part of the race-based politics, it's a nice thought. I also hope that it has something to do with Latinos not running based solely on their ethnic identity.

  5. ^^^ Or sexual orientation.

  6. This article is seriously about how non-native born citizens trying to run KC. This city is going downhill and the disparity gap will continue to grow because third-worlders hold influence in a first world society

  9. There hasn’t been an Asian, full blooded Indian or any other ethnic City Council person. We just started getting consisting with Black City Council reps. And those duds have disappointed tremendously. I guess everybody should have their fair opportunity but when has these groups every put forward a candidate so Kansas City could actually elect somebody from these groups? That seems like the better inquiry here.
