The best write-up so far on the sordid topic of unwanted tech and neighborhood reaction against higher taxes in this small but historic and enduring city to the east. Take a look at the story from The Examiner:
Independence council puts 'smart meters' on hold
Smart meters for Independence utilities are now in a holding pattern.A City Council majority voted Monday to postpone the contract with Core & Main to install Advanced Metering Infrastructure - or AMI, popularly known as smart meters - pending the outcome of a citizen petition to thwart that action.A council majority had voted 4-3 last week to go with the Core & Main contract for smart meters - the revote had not been on the agenda and was brought up at the meeting
I’ll tell you what works in Independence and it’s not democracy. What works is Mayor Eileen Weir’s big luscious titties.
ReplyDeleteThe Indep City
ReplyDeleteCouncil showed some wisdom by putting the process on hold. Kansas City council, however, is setting itself up for a double trampling of democratic process by first ignoring the Charter requirements for blvd renaming and, second, by ignoring the petition to put the change on the ballot ( and they will, trust me ). And pols wonder why voters are apathetic.
