The Uptown Arts Bar was always kind of a dump that had worsened in recent years with a clientele that was more interested in "recreational" adventures than any creative endeavor.
And so . . . The inevitable switcheroo happened today:
Uptown Arts Bar closes abruptly; new management to take over venue
Their message:
“Friends! As of today, March 18th, the Uptown Arts Bar is changing ownership and mission. We will be closing down for a short time while the new owners get the venue set up and ready for their exciting, new concept. We'll let them tell ya'll more about that as time goes on, so keep an eye out on this page for news from them, but we do know that Poetic Underground, Kansas City Poetry Slam, Middle of the Mic, and Sheri Hall's Community Poetry Workshop will continue as usual. Niche is closing and all currently booked shows have sadly been canceled. Look for your favorite shows at new venues soon! Take a moment to go like their page if you haven't already so you can keep up with them! We are honored to have worked with so many amazing artists! Greg Patterson and the staff at Arts Bar extend the greatest thanks and love to you, our wonderful arts community, for seven stunning years of performing arts on our stage. Our time together has truly been magical.”
There's fake news about a jazz takeover but readers who pay close attention realize the jazz never worked near this location. Yes, the Green Lady Owner John Scott has signed the new lease but it'll be surprising to see if he goes with a Jazz format.
To be fair, there are a few thriving businesses near this area under sober management. But deep pockets and years of commitment are required to maintain an an establishment in this part of town that hosts nearly as many hobos as paying customers.
Developing . . .
I think it's time to establish the 24th vape shop and see how that goes!
ReplyDelete^^^ Excellent plan.
DeleteIf Green Lady Lounge does move here, it's bad news for everybody and only a sign that they're going broke and can't make it in the Crossroads. THAT would be the worst news of all. They run a great place but the market for Jazz in KC is tougher than most people realize.
DeleteGood riddance.
ReplyDeleteis this that momentum they were talking about?
ReplyDeleteRename it "MLK Arts bar". Fixed.
ReplyDeleteI told some geezers they're reopening a Waid's with a 4 o'clock early bird special in that spot.
ReplyDeleteThey got so excited they accidentally shit themselves.
And, when ya met up with your fave 4 buttboiz at the BathHouse, y'all got so excited, ya actually jizzed all over each other.
DeleteA cape shop and CBD emporium
ReplyDelete^^^^^^^^^ NOW We're talking!
ReplyDelete7 years and no profit at the Arts Bar at all? That sounds very suspicious or maybe it's just an indication that all of the "Momentum" is a lie/
ReplyDeleteThe homosexuals that live around there or frequent that area just don’t have much money to spend. It’s hard for a business to make it when most of your customers are homosexuals.
ReplyDelete^^^ Spoken like a true closet case. Dreaming all day and night about what he wants. @9:03. I'm sure you'll do fine cruising for guys at the new place. Let your rainbow colors fly because you're OBSESSED with dudes.
ReplyDeletePlay this midtown lottery:
ReplyDeleteVape Shop
CBD store
vintage boutique.
my guess is a new one every 13 months. for the next five years.
^^^ Lulz.
ReplyDeleteThe businesses in that area should be very pissed at the city. First off, parking in general sucks in that area. A while back I tried to go to Monarch Coffee and could not find anywhere to park because the city's snow removal is a joke.
ReplyDelete^^^ Absolutely agree about the parking. It's even worse during the Spring when there are more people out.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Where will Geezer Hater do his nightly sword swallowing and disappearing gerbil act?
ReplyDelete^^^ LULZ. Now THAT is comedy because it's mean BUT FUNNY. Good show!
ReplyDeleteCan we get a list of queer bars?
ReplyDelete^^^ Follow your nose!
ReplyDeleteOr maybe just leave them along unless you want to join their good times. Either way, I think are looking for a date. Just look for an app and wear a rubber dude.
Never heard of the place.
ReplyDelete^^^^ Not missing much. It's like every other bar in KC but with a bunch of weirdos instead of fat former jocks.
ReplyDeleteOne less "party" bar in KC. So now we only have 40 or 50.
ReplyDeleteBring back the milky way..... also you forgot about tatoo shops prevalent in the area
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the arts bar...too bad about YJs too and countless other fun and unique KC establishments. KC is pricing itself out of everything unique so we don't get fewer interesting things but higher prices
