TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS REJECT MAYOR SLY'S PRE-K BECAUSE THEY WANT HALF A BILLION BUCKS TO REPAIR BUILDINGS NEXT YEAR!!!

There's a reasonable debate that we can have about standard early education vs. Pre-K QUESTION 1 touted for the upcoming April 2nd ballot. But students of local politics know that the argument, like all worthwhile disagreements, is really just about money.

Accordingly . . .

A BIG PART OF KCPS OPPOSITION AGAINST PRE-K SALES TAXES IS BECAUSE THEY'RE PLANNING A MEGA BOND DEMAND FOR 2020!!!

And so, the surprising level of unity against Question 1 isn't just about pushing back against higher taxes . . . It's a sign that these advocates have bigger fish to fry.

A friend of the blog sent us a snippet from a school board candidate who shared this nearly EPIC insight that offers a glimpse at the future for tax-weary residents . . .

"Dr. Bedell has let it slip that next year he is going to ask for a $500,000,000 bond issue to repair KCPS buildings before they fall down."

And so . . .

FEAR THIS TKC FIRST LOOK AT THE EPIC KCPS RANSOM IN THE MAKING!!!

Whilst KCMO residents want better schools, a half-a-billion dollars is a lot to ask but offers a glimpse at the stakes of the local education game. Mayor Sly's effort is chump change given this scale but local education officials aren't letting anything stand in the way of their historic tax push underway behind the scenes and now front and center for our blog community to consider.

  1. Makes sense. If only somebody would tell the students that the city is going to be bankrupt in 8 years.

    1. Easy answer here: NO & NO.

    2. It wasn't a popular move but former Superintendent Covington did the right thing when he sold a lot of the former KCPS buildings. Now they're appartments a few community centers and incubators for businesses. Fixing empty schools is farcical. Expecting taxpayers to finance that kind of folly is simply too much to ask when the district remains partially accredited.

If anything, we need to talk about bringing the district to a conclusion overall instead of throwing good money after bad.

  2. The money should be tied to accreditation. We can't afford to lose another generation to bad schools. That's a big reason why our murder rate is so high now.

  3. Maybe they could hold classes in the airport or jazz museum?

  4. They can’t prove they’re spending the money they get now wisely, how much money does it need to stay one of the worst school districts in the country, no amount of money is fixing this problem.

  5. The KC Skool Disrik is no more than an elaborate, expensive baby sitting service. The entire operation should be shut down and replaced. It is, as are prisons, a breeding ground for in the worst scenario, criminals and in the best scenario a breeding ground for the "Victimization" agitprop so prevalent in never ending newspaper articles, TV shows and an emetic political narrative that sucks the life out of cities in so many ways.

Burn those buildings to the ground and sow the earth with salt. Leave this sad, sorry legacy with a with a Carthaginian elegy that is removed from our memories forever.

    It couldn't be any worse.

  8. @4:09 AM. Definitely any request for money needs to tied to accreditation and a list of other accomplishments, attendance, graduation rate, job readiness, freedom from drugs, parents doing their jobs, and etc.
At the same time the school district rejecting Slie's pre-K plan is the school district asking Slie why he thinks he can run a school district when he cannot even manage a town.

  9. How did all the money spent on Central Academy for Excellence work out? You can’t even go to a basketball ball game safely there.

  10. My generation of KCMO students has it made. We get to attend a failing unaccredited school, live in a top 5 murder city, saddled by a top 10 city with most debt, neighborhoods have failing infrastructure, do not know who our daddy is, living with relatives because parents are in jail, downtown inconvenienced by a fair weather toy train and have a city government that does not know how to govern.
The only way we can make it is by dropping out of school, dealing in drugs and crime. Many times we have to kill to protect our territory.
    Life is good.

  11. But that doesn't change the fact that (1) the other school districts are opposed because (2) it's a terrible plan regardless of what the Kansas City School District plans.

  12. I'm not even sure what the KCPS system does with their money currently. I know they've been given boatloads over the years with very little to show for it. Now they want half a billion dollars? For what?

I'm sure S'lie, Jolie and all the money grubbing people it City Hall will climb on board drooling over all the money out of that pot they can hand out to private developers and other friends of theirs.

I'm sure a fair portion of that $500 million will turn into a slush fund for S'lie and whoever succeeds him in office. For that reason alone I say NO. And for the reason that the KCPS district is barely accredited and has already been given millions upon millions of dollars already with little to show for it I say, emphatically, "Hell to the NAW!"

But, I'm sure supporters of this farce will sprinkle a good amount of, "It's for the kids and our future" on all the TV ads and other campaign gear to tug at the heartstrings of the gullible to get this to pass. Never mind taxes are already high with little to show for it. City can't even manage to consistently get trash picked up on time yet we want to raise taxes to the tune of $500 million for a school system that's been failing for decades. Makes perfect sense.

  14. The amount of property tax payments the district receives is the same now with 14,000 students as it was with 70,000 students. Wonder why that isn't enough.

  15. Sly wants Pre-K so he can place his current staff in the jobs of running the Pre-K program. Its pay back for his staff. He could care less about the kids.

  17. 9:20 hit the nail on its head. Sly’s political future is done and so this is his last chance to find landing spots for his staff. As far as KCMO schools, they need to at least get full accredition before we even start the conversation on a levy

    ReplyDelete
  18. They need to consolidate 8 high schools into 4 and downsize the rest of the district before asking for any money. They already spend 250 million a year with no oversight. Not to mention, they are paying millions out to employment discrimination lawsuits.

  20. Do we really need a School District in KCMO since it's proving to do no one any good. Schools are only as good as the family's who send their kids there

  21. They’re going to be illiterate when they graduate anyway. Most of them are going to prison anyway. The rest are going to be on welfare. What difference does it make what the school is like?

    Quote from above poster.

I have faith in the KC voters. They handed Sly another 20 years and millions more dollars via the E-Tax extension couple of years ago. I'm confident they are still too lazy and uninformed to deny another boondoggle money grab.

Just because you never amounted to shit and cannot afford a Casio, doesn't mean the rest of us don't. You chose to spend your life posting on a blog about deep-state stupidity, and goofy conspiracy theories. I worked.

  31. The school, district has been dumbed down for decades, the whole district is merely a means to make big money for the higher ups. The only way to keep the gravy train rolling is passing every kid that walks through the door. Even if you don’t show up for school they still pass and graduate you, it’s all about the money and only the money. We can give them all the money in the world and all’s its gonna do is give the higher ups more money for themselves.

They’ve proved they can’t be trusted, no more, enough is enough.
