TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! COUNCIL CANDIDATES VIOLATE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS IN UPCOMING APRIL 2ND KCMO ELECTION!!!

Once again our blog community starts an IMPORTANT STORY CONCERNING KANSAS CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES AND THEIR TAX TROUBLES.

A sad situation . . .

HALF THE CANDIDATES IN KANSAS CITY 3RD DISTRICT OWE BACK TAXES!!!

We'll have more on this sordid topic of coin but for now this narrative and call out is a PERFECT preview and the very best call to action we've seen so far this election cycle.

Checkit:

Unqualified Candidates on April 2 Kansas City Council Ballot

The requirements to run for mayor and city council are that candidates for mayor and city council are stated in the city charter. A candidate must be at least 25 years old, qualified city voters, residents of the city for five years and of their district for six months, and have paid city and county taxes for two years before election.

We have multiple people who are candidates for the city council who are in violation of the eligibility requirements. How can half of the candidates in one city council district race and other candidates be on the ballot, if they are not current with their city and county taxes for the two year period prior to the election? Some of the candidates are more than two years delinquent with their taxes.

Why were these individuals not checked to ensure they were current on their taxes by the Kansas City Board of Elections or City Hall prior to the ballot being finalized or asked to bring a copy of their paid tax receipts when they were filing for office???

The candidates signed an affidavit stating that they were current on their taxes but yet many are not. Is it a crime to make a false statement on an affidavit?

Four years ago a candidate was found not to be qualified to be on the ballot and votes for that candidate were not counted.

Should votes for these candidates be counted, if they are not qualified to be on the ballot according to the requirements set forth by the city? Does anybody care that we have individuals on the ballot to lead our city who are delinquent in taxes and not qualified to run for office.

How can our city have a fair and honest election, if multiple candidates are not qualified to even be on the ballot due to not meeting requirements to run for office?

Our city must have honest, fair and impartial elections by those who are qualified to serve and lead our city.

  3. Running other people's lives and deciding what business will receive tax breaks, subsidies, and other benefits is hard work. Some people do this sort of heavy lifting while the rest of us try to be just as noble by paying our taxes. Everyone's contribution to society is different. All the animals are equal. Some are just more equal than others.

  4. And this is shocking news? Since there is something in the rules that says you can't owe any back taxes and if true that the candidate owes, then why are these people still even listed as candidates?

Does an investigation into the Jackson County Board of Election Commissioners need to take place to insure all election rules and candidate application to seek office filings are being followed as dictated by law?

  7. Only the poor have to pay taxes, the clowncil members are above paying them, that’s what people that aren’t important have to do.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Name names. The citizens need to know who not to vote for. KCMO government requires citizens to abide by the laws yet government officials seem to be excluded.

  9. The rule says "and have paid city and county taxes for two years before election." But the rule does not specify which two years. It only requires that the payments must have been made some time before the election.

So if any of these deadbeat candidates can show that they paid their taxes in, say, 1998 and 2012, they're good.

  10. Not only that, 4:50, where does it say they had to have paid ALL of what they owed? Pay $5 on a $500 bill and you've "paid" taxes.

  11. So all Lucas has to do is prove he paid two years in Lawrence then?

  12. How dumb do you think these people are? They want to spend other peoples money not there own.

  13. Is lying about whether you have a Masters Degree from UMKC (LOL) also a disqualifier? It should be. No real scholar wants to graduate from a State school, let alone a Master’s Degree. I was thinking Reed had just used his Council seat to buy his degree like the rest of the entitled ilk.

  14. Sounds like somebody is trying to be messy. Neither Reed or Lucas were residents of this City 5 years before they ran. Both moved in to the apartments on 18th Vine just to run. Lucas lived (or lives) in KU country and Reed in a box. LMAO.

  15. This sounds like Freedom Inc is at it again. They want to make sure that the gravy train keeps running for the few and not the community. When will the residents in those districts wake up and see that they have been hoodwinked. They should avoid candidates on that ballot like the plague.

  16. Well from the looks of it there is some truth to this story. On the county website it shows two of the candidates running for the 3rd District definitely owe taxes on their homes, one on both car and home. The other has taxes going back over three years. Sounds like an investigation is in order here. How could this have slipped past the city and Kansas City Election Board??? This does not look good, if you cannot manage your own money l sure don’t want you managing my tax dollars.

  17. Super Dave & 7:02 are right, an investigation is needed. The time has come for city and county officials to be held accountable for not enforcing current laws. The same people should be removed who fail to follow same laws.

  18. Several mayoral, council candidates didn't file personal financial disclosures either its the law,no penalties or removal from ballot.

  19. And this was reported by the KC Star when? Oh, it wasn't reported. I get it.

  20. I was told Joseph “Joey Cuts” Thomas and Shaheer Akhtab are two of the ones from the 3rd District who owe taxes. I wonder if Pat Clark is the other.

    1. So you can't read? Akhtab taxes are paid in full. Freedom Inc.trying to clean the slate so Alvin Brooks baby momma can win with no competition. Joey, bill didn't show up at the court house they send out bills when their tags are due it was an mistake,he paid twice in 18. Remember Sly James,Reed were sworn in office without current taxes being paid. Joey will clear up his tax issue along with the other candidate .

  21. Melissa Robinson could be the other one, she had a tax lien against her by State of Missouri for back taxes. It is shame we have the President of the School Board, an elected official who should be setting an example for the community. Does anybody in the third district believe in paying taxes. SMH

Rachel Riley does not owe back taxes. If your trying to discredit her campaign try again loser. She is the only true Community leader in this 3rd District Race. Tell whoever set you up to do your bum work to get a life.

  24. Rumor has it that several candidates running for the fifth district are not current on their taxes. Citizens deserve better, we need honest candidates if we expect our city to grow. Candidates have been removed from the process in the past for falsifyng records, the same should happen here.

  26. What I find hilarious about this is that when I tried to become a vendor to KCMO and Jackson County in 2012 I had to sign the affidavit and provide written proof that my company was current on all sales and property taxes. I did and still haven't gotten my form to be a vendor. Well I quit the business in 2016 anyway so it doesn't matter. But the fact is that I know the election offices in both city and county will claim "that the law does not require them to perform a check on candidates so they don't". Imagine that loophole, who does that benefit?
