Mayoral Candidate Quinton Lucas Releases Economic and Racial Justice Platform, Goes First on TV Ads, and Announces Racial Justice Rally This Saturday
KANSAS CITY, MO - Today, mayoral candidate Quinton Lucas is releasing a set of proposed reforms to address issues of economic and racial justice in Kansas City, augmenting the message with the first campaign ad buys, and announcing a racial justice rally this Saturday at 4pm at the corner of 31st and Troost.
With proposals ranging from pardoning all stand-alone municipal marijuana convictions to creating a KCMO Municipal ID Card that provides residents identification regardless of immigration status, the platform outlines concrete steps Lucas will take as Mayor of Kansas City to improve the quality of life for all Kansas Citians.
“If we are going to build a city where we all can prosper, regardless of which zip code we live in, we will need leadership that removes burdens to people getting good jobs and being able to take care of their families.” said Lucas. “ That’s why I’ve proposed a sweeping set of reforms to address the inequality, often on racial and socioeconomic lines, we see too often in Kansas City.”
Lucas’s Economic and Racial Justice Platform includes policy stances on economic development, affordable housing, education, healthcare, criminal justice, and tenants rights.
By releasing the platform, Lucas becomes among the first mayoral candidates to provide clear, concrete steps to address inequalities throughout Kansas City. The platform can be found on the campaign website.
“It is time for us to get beyond talking points and discuss real, substantive solutions” said the Councilman.
Some of the most striking proposals include decriminalizing mental health and addiction by supporting alternatives to incarceration, continuing to support a living wage, and the creation of a liaison within city government to support minority and women entrepreneurs.
With this platform, the Lucas campaign is announcing their first ad buys on local television and radio. In a crowded field, the campaign expects being first on TV will help Quinton Lucas build the name ID to get through the primary. The Lucas for KC team says they will use the ad buys, including digital messaging, to reinforce specific aspects of the platform, including the creation of a Municipal ID and the decriminalization of marijuana.
To engage the public on the specifics of this platform, the campaign will host a Rally for Racial Justice on Saturday, March 16th, at 4:00pm at the corner of 31st and Troost.
Only in his first term, Quinton Lucas has been a leading voice on the Council, working with local businesses to drive private investment and job growth while also leading efforts to secure quality housing opportunities in all Kansas City neighborhoods. Endorsed by leading civic groups and with strong campaign resources as we head into the primary, Quinton is a leading contender to succeed Mayor Sly James.
