Kansas City Star Hated Silly Downtown Stadium Idea Before They Endorsed It

Quick morning fact check on opinion evolution . . .

Show-Me Number Cruncher Patrick Tuohey remembers: Before calling a downtown baseball stadium "an incredible opportunity," @KCStarOpinion called it a "pipedream that will not die"

Additionally, it's worth noting that none of the "more urgent priorities" the star cited in their 2017 editorial have been addressed.

OMG it's like, the current stadiums are so blighted, like, where do you shop, drink, and like entertain at that stupid setup out there?

  6. Why take the stadium out of the 3rd district? It's much more convenient off the highway as well. PUtting it in the East Crossroads will just make it a higher crime stadium.

  7. Sounds like a Sly idea to me.

  8. It's getting done and you're all powerless to do a thing about it!

  9. ^^^^ Doubtful. The teams should pay for it themselves.

  10. Nice to see Jackson County left out of the discussion. I'm sure they'll have something to say about that. The new plan stinks and it sounds like just another Sly scam.

  11. The new jails should be built on the land where people want a new stadium.

  12. ^^ugh huh. Go watch Matlock.

  13. All the actual "reporters" who had some institutional memory and knew the lay of the land are long long gone.
The new crowd of J-school grads "report" using press releases from whoever send one their way and gets all excited about every "new" ideas that comes along, no matter how ridiculous.
Remember when the Star was actually a well-crafted local newspaper that seriously reported facts about KC and regional issues?
    Long long gone.
    Decades ago.
    Sad.

  14. It ain't broke, don't fix it.

  15. ^^except, and this is key here, they're not trying to fix it dummy, they're going to replace it. Try to follow along if you can. Copy that chump?

  16. 9:06, the Star used to be better (how could it not be?) but it was never good. A decent sports page was always more than offset by inane Duigiud and Sanchez opinion columns.

  17. ^^Who cares what you think? The Star is a geezer rag. Nobody of consequence or substance reads print newspapers anymore. Adapt or die. Sounds like you belong on INFO WARS anyway. Good riddance!

Why do we care what Touhey thinks? He is a paid hack imported from Maryland. He has been caught lying repeatedly, refuses to debate anyone with any intelligence, and when he is not making up facts, he cites "studies" that are decades old.

That said, I prefer not to give billionaires tax money, whether its in Raytown or Downtown.

  19. Let's see......a new airport we didn't need, a streetcar we didn't want, and a hotel that will dilute the sustainability of other hotels. The city council has dug us into a sinkhole of debt from which we may not recover. YEAH! Let's build a downtown stadium! And the flooding and sinkholes continue.

  20. Let's see...I want the airport. I want the streetcar, and I want a new convention center hotel. A downtown stadium would be the icing on the cake and a tremendous investment in our downtown core. Let's get it! Didn't you learn anything from our current president? Deficits don't matter! Did you post a screed when the GOP passed a tax break that blew a tremendous hole in our deficit? Or are you only concerned about deficits when democrats are in power like the rest of the GOP hypocrites? Thought so!
