Kansas City 2019 Affordable Housing Fight: Fake News Or Bold Crusade For Free Rent?!?

Nearly two dozen protesters gathered in front of a mostly empty City Hall in order to demand more enforcement of renters rights.

Their mission statement:

"KC Tenants, a new organization led by a multiracial base of tenants in Kansas City, launched a #PeoplesHousingPlatform on the steps of City Hall. Grassroots leaders told their stories and demanded a public response to their Platform from all candidates for Mayor and City Council. Over 150 people participated in the rally in 5 degree weather. Allies from faith, organized labor, school districts, and many other community organizations attended, as did several candidates for Mayor and City Council. We're just getting started!"

Take a look at coverage better than what that MSM is offering:

To wit . . .

CREDIT WHERE IT'S DUE: THESE PROTESTERS BRAVED THE BITTER COLD TO SEND A MESSAGE TO KCMO!!! BUT IS THEIR STRUGGLE REALLY JUST A DEMAND FOR LOCAL SOCIALISM?!?!

You decide . . .

They deserve support. This is a good movement for the people!

A good movement for the people? That sounds like a nice dump!

There are more poor people than any one can count
If there was a way for them to form their own political party they could get anything they want and scare the shit out of city hall at the same time. Maybe this is a start

^^^^ Agreed!

Why can’t they just get a real job and pay their rent like everybody else? Too lazy I guess

Instead of protesting just get a job. Like everyone else.

These give me something cause I needed are the same idiots that want open borders. You cannot get government support for citizens when we also have to spend money on illegal aliens. While LakinSha is not learning to read the teacher is distracted by the Gomez twins that don't even speak ubonics. A dollar can only go so far.

They are fighting for their rights. Nothing wrong with that. There are a lot of people who need renters protections. These folks are doing the right thing!

Good for them. Much more active than keyboard warriors!

It's good that we are making this a campaign issue, there needs to be more opposition against slumlords in KC.

Times Up!

Don’t be be a slum renter

No where to hide for slumlords. There should be accountability and these protesters are doing the best for all of KC residents. We can't have landlords who abuse the system without recourse for the people and by the people!

How many white people did they pay to give the illusion that it was a multiracial protest?

By affordable, they really mean free. Right?

Damn, John Wayne name is coming down at the Orange County Airport. Turns out John Wayne gave his support to White Supremacy in 1971 in Playboy. I guess the white supremacy free ride is over?

The Star's story was what I call a newsitorial - presented as a news report but reads like an editorial. That used to be a cardinal sin of journalism, but it's business as usual now.

Most of these protesters' demamds are ludicrous. If they get even part of what they want, the result will be less rental housing stock, as owners find other uses for their properties. And when there is a reduction in supply but demand stays the same or increases, the price of goods, in this case rental units, will rise.

No doubt there are reforms that would be beneficial to renters and not too burdensome for landlords, but that will not be enough for this group of radical organizers. So good luck folks, but this will not end the way you want.

@8:13AM says the guy with no life posting on a blog at 8:13AM on a Tuesday morning. You're right, NOBODY wants that life!! God, you played yourself!! LOSER! Hahahahahahaha!

Good landlords need protection from lousy renters who try to skip on paying and tear the place they are renting up.

Why didn't they cobble together a stock portfolio (or secured stock options) before the S&P 500 shot up from 700 to 2,800?

^^I don't know. Did you ask?

My brother in law has a couple of places he rents out, small but keeps in decent shape as in things fixed and clean. Couple of years ago he had to wait just shy of 6 months getting a renter out who wasn't who he rented to but a front person for you guess it a black family who had ZERO credit and he would have never rented to in the first place. Yes it was fraud but try and get that charge to take place in this shitty prosecutor's office we have here. The place was trashed and in both bedrooms some knuckle dragging ape took a shit in a corner. Cost him thousands to repair and then to have a lawyer redo a lease agreement that hopefully will help in the future but nobody is holding their breath on that. As for the person who commited fraud? Well they seem to have up and relocated to another state which will make going after them a nightmare and the losers who were kicked out have no money but appear to have nice cars while covered in tats with 3 kids, but BIL says 5 losers claiming to be a Daddy so no recourse there says the lawyer. Told my BIL his fee's will probably end up being more than could ever be collected off these losers if any was ever collected. They show up in court with a legal aid clown who makes claims like they lost job, kids sick, blah blah, out of money, blah blah and the Judge say you must pay and kicks them out of the courtroom and a few months later it's another reason and Judge kicks them out again after saying you must pay your bills. It isn't the renters who need protection it's the landlords who do.

Glad to see you're finally able to admit your issues. Work on them. ;)

I think it is ok for civic minded people to post comments on a local interest blog. Just wish the dialogue could be elevated a bit. “You’re a fag”. “You’re a geezer” ....

KCMO raises property taxes

KCMO starts charging landlords a mandatory fee to rent property for "inspections"

KCMO tries to raise minimum wage to a high level so there will be less available jobs while at the same time raising the cost of living for all residents

KCMO jacked up property taxes on the streetcar line

KCMO Schools want $500 million to stay unaccredited and have no accountability

KCMO needs a complete rework of it's sewer and road system that will likely cost over 1 billion

It's almost like these are the reason's rent is so high and these "protesters" are dumb lap dogs doing the bidding for a system that is holding them down
