Jackson County Exec Censors Jail Report

Both the Sheriff and Exec Frank White operate in secrecy and, more importantly, they picked a fight with the newspaper that has earned even more negative coverage from newsies. Take a look at one of many reports that we know offers a scathing critique of an institution that has ALREADY BEEN DOCUMENTED AS A HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION in progress . . . Checkit:

Report on troubled Jackson Co. jail cut before release | The Kansas City Star

Jackson County Executive Frank White's administration suppressed more than half of a consulting team's report that outlined shortcomings at the troubled county jail while it was under his supervision. White gave no hint when he released the Shive-Hattery report at the first of this year that the 53-page document had been heavily edited, despite his outspoken support for government "transparency" during his three years as head of county government.

  4. Wow. Just wow. Reading Frank White's pathetic excuses, the "I can't know everything that is going on" BS. Just how far has Jackson County fallen since the days of Harry Truman and "the buck stops here."

  5. My question for Frank White: It's obvious you don't know everything that's going on. But why haven't you fired one of these "aides" who have apparently deceived the legislators and the public, if not you?

The lawyer who helped falsify the report about an inmate's death still has her county job. Caleb Clifford still has his $140,000 job. The spokeswoman who is supposed to be the "public information officer" for the whole county continues to lie repeatedly to the county legislators and the public.

The Legislators need to demand resignations! Maybe it's time to start calling for Frank's.

  7. Classic Forte -- If you can't bully or lie, just hide the evidence.

  8. 8:33 Frank White gave that lawyer a promotion.

  9. Why doesn't the County just go to a successful jail and then copy it. Studying failure hasn't worked.
