DISGRACE!!! AMID POTHOLE CRISIS, PUBLIC WORKS OFFICIALS ENJOYED SUNNY ARIZONA JUNKET ESCAPE FROM KANSAS CITY ARCTIC TEMPERATURES!!!

Insight into how City Hall really operates despite all of those promises about fixing local streets. From one of the best TKC Readers . . .

"Kansas City's roads are following apart. Potholes are everywhere. And our city's top three public works managers were sent on a junket in Arizona. The director, deputy director and street car manager toured the streetcars in Tucson and Tempe. Checkout out these tweets confirming the trip. And KC in the #StreetcarSummit hashtag. These are also the same three that went to Spain before the KC streetcar was built to view their streetcars. Maybe they should focus on our roads before touring other city's streetcars."

Maybe it was worth it. Sadly, most news outlets stopped reporting on City Hall outside of press releases so nobody knew about it. UNTIL NOW.

You decide . . .

    1. Honestly, I'd rather have them learn about how cities are doing the streetcar without all of the endless promotion and hype. It's a nice addition to downtown but not the second coming. And other streetcars are more friendly to auto traffic, cyclists and pedestrians. In KC, if the streetcar hits you, it's your fault. That's not fair. And we have most of the downtown police force dedicated to enforcing traffic along the streetcar route. That's a big commitment of resources when we need those police on the eastern side of the loop.

These issues need to be discussed in KC not in Arizona.

  5. 4:58 - Certainly not a proponent of boondoggles and such but working for the city in the majority of cases for these employees is waaaay less lucrative than the private sector. No bonuses of any sort, etc. So they take a trip to see how other cities do things that KC is very obviously pursuing...big whoop.

The Public Works Department provides optimal value in designing, building, operating and maintaining the City’s streets, bridges, and parking infrastructure.

I could let out a long fart, with the sound of it forming a "streetcars and airports drive economic growth" and city officials across the country would stand and applaud. Then form a line with their checkbooks open.

  15. It's not a matter of voters sitting on their hands at election time, it's a matter of who they are voting for. Sadly voters will make the same mistake again.

  16. Maybe we can get the Mayor and all twelve Council Members to go to Arizona until September.
    Sure be worth the money.

  17. Remember when City Hall said the streetcar wouldn’t cost the taxpayer one penny? Well, who paid for this vacation, eh ... summit?

  18. ^^^^ Damn good question. KC taxpayers are always on the losing end of the equation. Still haven't seen any plows today so far. Damn shame.

  19. Just one scam out of many. I think that we're beyond audit in many of these scams. If you really want to see highway robbery. Look at what the Water department. You're taking about some fraud on a massive scale.

    1. Which 75% is actually only 20/23% of the city's popular repeat offenders.
