It's unlikely given how much local politicos seem to kowtow to just about every developer in town. Still, scuttling building codes for the highest bidder risks further damage to a district that's already under siege by greedy corporations and gun-toting visitors.

Kansas City Plan Commission Rejects Plaza Building Height Limits, But Council May Impose Them
A proposal to restrict the height of new buildings in the core of Kansas City's Country Club Plaza, the so-called Plaza Bowl plan, was rejected unanimously Tuesday by the City Plan Commission as arbitrary and "political."

Take a look at the new Minnesota congress women Ilhan Omar who said she hates Jews hates Israel and wrote a letter to a judge asking for him to be lenient on some boys that were new ISIS members. So the Price Bros had better think twice before they go preaching about diversity, not to mention the little black panther flash mobs.
Never believe what a developer is stating. They are only looking out for themselves at the taxpayers expense.
ReplyDeleteThe plaza has always been a shopping district and nothing more. There used to be gas stations and drug stores there and now this whole place is being canonized like it's some sacred ground. Build tall buildings there. The plaza's been a jumbled mess lately with ownership lately and I'm still not 100 percent convinced nordstroms will actually move down there. While the price guys do seem skeezy they're right about the density thing and I think they mean diversity in the variety of options, not the bring Jamal down here kind of way.

This Council is dominated by the east side Agenda and they do not really care about anything to do with the Plaza. 18th and Vine, Linwood Grocery, Jazz Museum Welfare, MLK renaming of Paseo.

They want to leave a patch of green space and not go up to sidewalk on 47th and have some character so it does not look a big brown blob when tear down church, so be it. You can require design stabadrads, old saks had none. got none. Nor do the other high rise apartments on edge of plaza.
ReplyDeleteYour comment about gas. Stations and drug stores does not mean shit. They were not high rises and were in buildings that maintained the character of the place. Designing a outdoor mall after Seville Spain may not be everyone’s choice but that is what the plaza is.
They butchered the old halls building, ridiculous messing up the two story arches. An additional permit for plaza vicinity requiring design review would have prevented that.
ReplyDeleteI hate to see Price Bros turning the Plaza into a Little Lenexa. The beautiful old apartment buildings along Ward Pkwy are still stately and dignified, not unlike those in large cities (i.e. 5th Ave). But the sort of crap that Price Bros throws up is new and swanky for about 10 minutes and within 10 years they look like any of the menagerie of poorly aged “garden apartments” that litter parts of JoCo.
