Snow doesn't stop avid bicyclists from getting out, but bike lanes need more attention
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - "It's the best feeling, like I can do whatever. I can go wherever I want," said Mike Ivancic, avid bicyclist. Ivancic doesn't even let the snow stop him. He was out bicycling in the snow on Wednesday. Ivancic is the president of Cycling Kansas City, a group of 800 bicyclists.
If you want to accurately direct your outrage at the money wasted on bike lanes, look to the USDOT and Federal Highway.
ReplyDeleteThey give “grant money” to cities to put in bike lanes. St. Joseph & Columbia did the same thing: got federal dollars to put bike lanes in under the guise of “alternative modes of transportation.”
That’s also why sidewalks get built along roads that you never see people walking along.
USDOT: must invest in all modes of transportation including bikes and pedestrians.
Then they have to change out hardware on stoplights to make them “bike and pedestrians friendly.”
States and cities can face penalities if they don’t go along with it.

The armour bike lanes are very silly and unless the money was 100% a federal check I can’t understand it. Really hoping the planning geniuses leave paseo, 36th st., Gladstone blvd., 18th street, Meyer, etc. alone.
