TKC TOLD YOU SO!!! ALL THINGS RELATED TO ROCK ISLAND ARE SKETCHY!!!

This plan was pushed forward by a dude who is now rotting away in a federal pen . . . So maybe transit urban planner hipsters might want to think twice about supporting this land grab vaporware scheme. Here's "reporting" inspired by TKC FIRST NEWS about three years ago . . .

Feds question Jackson County over Rock Island trail | The Kansas City Star

Jackson County, in 2016, took control of 17.7 miles of the old Rock Island rail corridor to build a rails-to-trails hiking and biking path. A federal agency questions how the county acquired the property.

  1. What I like about the idea is that it’s continuous, unlike the failed bike lanes in killa shitty that had no thought put into them, it’s not just plopped here and there for a few blocks, interrupting traffic, closing traffic lanes etc, etc. maybe we can get the bike snobs to leave the city and ride their stupid bikes out of everybody’s way.

  2. Yeah those 1% bike riders could teach the LGBT's a thing or two about getting their way.

  3. Jackson county taking lessons in waste, fraud, and abuse from KCMO or is it vice versa?

  4. This is an interesting story showing how inept our local governments are even when dealing withe lesser known/small issues.

Both the KCMO and Jackson county gov't are out of control and basically retarded. One needs to be eliminated (ideally both!) since they ruin everything they touch. KC does not need both a JaCo gov't and a city gov't. Need KCK kind of consolidation.

  5. Sure, any landowner who were alive when the land was first taken for railroad use in the 1800s should be compensated.

Any others accepted the non-ownership of the land as a pre-existing condition when they transferred ownership to themselves as heirs or when they bought the land from heirs.

Let all the individual landowners who owned the land in the 1800s file claims with the County.

If you bought your home you accepted any right of way or restrictions at the timw.

  6. Now imprisoned former Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders is BUSTED over obviously corrupt tactics in acquiring the Rock Island corridor.

    Adjoining landowners must be compensated.

And what about the diversion of funds that took place when this transaction went down?

  7. Hold. Hold. Sanders got in trouble for taking like twenty grand or less from a campaign account-not from the public purse. So let's keep it in perspective. Compare this to the racketeering fraudsters at KCFD who purloined seventeen million out of the taxpayers in one year of overtime. And Sanders as an elected official faces the voters. What is the true corruption??

    Thanks,

  11. In 2006, Rock Island was demanding way to much for theis right of way -- $15 Million! County Exec Katheryn Shields refused to pay that.

But, through skillful negotiation over 10 years, the new County regime was able to get the price down to a mere $52 Million ...Uh, wait a minute.... Help me with the math here...

  16. I think the law has always been that landowners have the right to reclaim any land abandoned by the railroads. The Katy trail changed the law under the dubious assumption that the right of way might someday be used for rail again. But Jackson County didn't follow this so now they might have problems.
