  3. If you wondered what happened to all the Russian architects after the collapse of the Soviet Union, just drive around KCMO and take a look at the apartments and other new buildings under construction.
This little imagination, creativity, and class will only get worse with time.
In fact, many of them are already behind the times.
    Many missed opportunities.

  4. Downtown KC is DEAD! The only time there is anything is going on, is weekdays when everyone is at work or during the summer on weekends and or events. They can't even keep anyone on the Plaza.

Surrounded by downtown's finest amenities?? Yep, falling down buildings, cracked and broken sidewalks, wees growing through the cracks, it looks like crap down there.

  5. ^^^Says the geezer who hasn't been down there in decades! You dumb-ass, there is always something going on down there. There has never been this many people in downtown after dark in decades. You have zero idea what the fuck you're talking about. Stick to life in Frogville geezer. You embarrassed yourself with that post!

  15. This is great on the surface. But the question always is with these types of developments is, "How much, in terms of financial incentives, is the city diverting into this thing"?

It's great if this thing attracts new business from OUTSIDE the metro area. But it comes down to dollars and cents of it all. The city should not be in the business of financing these private developments as these things tend to be a negative gain for us.

Look at it in terms of this: There is wording and documentation out there that the city is diverting in the neighborhood of $25 million to $30 million dollars per year in incentives to private development. That only makes sense if we were getting that or more in return. It's hard to imagine we're getting anything close to that in return. That's why these types of deals are typically bad and net losses for us. And the reason why we have shortages in the city budget and such. Look no further than the $10+ million we pay out of the general fund per year to cover the payments on the bonds for the P&L.

It hasn't been stated yet on how much, if anything, the city is putting in for Strata. But it's hard to imagine the developer is doing this 100% on their own given the history of this town.

  16. Downtown KCMO is definitely not dead at night and on the weekends. It used to be though. So, are they actually going through with building this or is it just a proposal?
