TKC EXCLUSIVE FACT CHECK!!! CELEBRATE KCPS ACCREDITATION FAKE NEWS!!! DO YOU WANT TO SEND YOUR KID THERE?!?!

In the early morning hours local news MISREPORTED info about KCPS winning accreditation as they stumbled all over themselves to decipher hype from school leaders. KCPS REMAINS PARTIALLY ACCREDITED despite several false reports claiming an EPIC victory.

Whilst we don't enjoy ruining a politically motivated party (yes we do) let's file this one under the "the soft bigotry of low expectations" and take a more critical look beyond the hype.

Again, "journalists" across the greater Kansas City metro touted "progress" of a district that has been decimated over generations and serves a fraction of the students it once educated during the glory days of this town. KCPS has a complex history and it's always worth noting that The Kansas City Desegregation Experiment had lofty and worthwhile goals but ultimately might have done more damage to education in the KCMO urban core than any other bad idea in local history.

Nevertheless, here's the good news today as newsies struggled to get their story straight and needed more resources for accurate transcription beyond early morning rumor:

Admin Blog: KCPS Earns 82.9 Percent of Points Possible on 2018 APR

KCUR: After Another Good Report Card, Accreditation For Kansas City Public Schools Seems Likely

KSHB who misreported this hype earlier: KCPS sees improved performance scores, hits full accreditation range

KCTV5: KCPS receives highest score ever on Annual Progress Report

KMBC: KCMSD earns highest progress report score ever, score in full accreditation range

Now here's the real story . . .

KANSAS CITY MEDIA HYPES "PROGRESS" FOR A C+ SCORE!!!

It's pathetic and would be funny if the future of youngsters wasn't at stake.

A few more highlights . . .

- Test scores are actually stagnant across most schools. Insiders suspect Lincoln Prep is, yet again, propping up the rest of the district.

- The progress on the point system was mostly due to graduation rates . . . It's entirely possible that this arbitrary measure might be due to administrators simply passing along unqualified students or taking a more "liberal" assessment of graduation qualifications. In Dr. Bedell's remarks this morning he emphasized attendance which remains a bare minimum measure of success but a vital benchmark for state scores.

- Accreditation is still far away and this kind of presser has been repeated over and over with little real progress when it comes it ENROLLMENT. Charter Schools have seen gains but overall KCPS is a pathetically tiny district despite a significant influx of population to KCMO within district lines over the past 5 years. Translation: Young families don't believe KCPS hype.

Here's the real test . . .

WILL THIS "PROGRESS" INSPIRE MORE RESIDENTS TO SIGN UP THEIR YOUNGSTERS FOR THE KCPS?!?!?

Please tell us why or why not . . .

The reality is that Missouri has been in a tough spot in their efforts to deal with this problematic district. A total loss of accreditation would push students to other surrounding districts and NOBODY wanted that . . . But year after year test scores remain low and the progress comes mostly from administration or clerical maneuvers.

Of course the district deserves praise because it's slightly less of a nightmare than in years past and Dr. Bedell has proven to be a capable manager. But the progress and decent test results isn't historic. Today mearly marks one small step forward to regain ground after tens of thousands of families have left the district behind.

You decide . . .

  4. Interesting how the stories changed so quickly. KCPS is somewhat better. I'm sure that means the current superitneendt wont' be around for long.

  5. The charter schools are decent. That is the only thing that saved the district.

  6. Nobody wants their kid to go to KCPS unless you want him to learn the skills to be an illiterate criminal when he grows up.

  7. Schools are only as good as the families who live in the district. Money doesn't matter.

  8. ^^Oh no!! These schools are no good!! Oh no!! Bad people! Bad schools! but the blacks! No no no! No good news! No, I don't want my kid there!!! Oh no!!! The blacks though!! What about the blacks! Screw KC! Screw the blacks!! Oh no! No more tax money!!! No progress here!!! No no no!

  9. ^^^^^ Stop being a bitch.

You think the schools are good. Really. Is that what your defending? Nah, just trolling because you don't have an informed opinion. No opinion at all but to just try and get attention. Typical liberal.

  10. TKC, you need to mentioned that this same thing happened in 2016 but they were not able to hold on to the progress. So the accreditation was pushed back. I want to see KCPS school succeed but it's clear that a lot of the reporters don't go to school board meetings.

  11. No more progress!! This isn't good news! Don't you people know what you're talking about here? No progress!! No kids going to KCPS! Burn it down!!!!!! I don't like this at all!!!! The coloreds though! No!

  14. Fact is KCMO's political machine needs and demands a stupid and under educated citizenry to survive.

  15. This is no progress!! Oh the hell it is!! No progress! No no no! We can't abide this! We will NOT abide this! The blacks though...it's the blacks!!! Oh God no! NO PRoGRESS!

  16. It's not the schools that are failing, it's the students (and their families and culture). If Blue Valley HS and East HS were to swap student bodies but keep everything else in place, the former would turn into a failing institution and the latter would turn into a successful one.

  17. ^^Yeah!! What she said!! No progress!! You here me? It'[s the families man, those bottom-feeding pieces of shit! It's the ruinous blacks!! No progress! They're failing! Bad blacks!! No progress!

  19. GIVE ME A FLIPPING BREAK! There is no way the KCPS got 82.9% with all of the corruption going on in KC this is nothing but BS and probably cooked.

Sending your kid there would be like sending your kid to prison, no difference. Take a look at what the inner city kids have done to the burbs.

How about that super at Lee's Summit? He's a real class act....NOT

    ReplyDelete
  20. ^^Yea Schools are prisons I say!! No difference! There's no way they got 82.9% because they're dumb! They're dumb I say and they cheat!!!! They're blacks too. This is a lie! A damn lie I say!

  21. So, how much did they pay the tutors to take the tests! Hahahahaha!
