The Great Kansas City AWD Debate

This confessional argument for driver safety makes a good point and offers an alternative perspective for driving local streets which favors slow precaution rather than tech supremacy . . .

Argument Against AWD

Every so often when this a snowstorm happens there's always some MACHO idiot in the comments talking about how they get around better in snow than everyone else. They're the kind of d-bag who owns an all wheel drive vehicle or snow tires so believes it's ok to fly by traffic in the snow. That kind of thinking is what leads to pileups and deaths on the road. Here's why: Cars are heavy. And because they're heavy, manufacturers fit them with all wheel braking as standard. You don't get better brakes or better stopping power by buying an all wheel drive model. AWD makes the heavy thing start faster, but the stopping was already as good as they could make it.

It's a common trope around where I'm from, Canada, that first-time buyers wrap their machines around a tree because of this. They're more dangerous in some ways . . .

The worst of the teeny peeny assholes who drive the big giant pickup trucks. They go flying around everyone like they're very important, and in some sort of a huge hurry. What they fail to understand is just because it goes better in the snow doesn't mean it stops better.

  2. AWD was never designed to make you go faster just to help to get around in mud, snow and ice better. But somehow getting around better to some means the right to drive like an idiot while putting others at risk because of their stupidity. I have had AWD n the past and to be honest liked how it helped the car more in heavy rain than in snow and ice. AWD is very useful thing to have but its like a gun, in the hands of the wrong person leads to disaster.

  3. KC has the worst weather drivers in the country, and the worst of these are any jackass in a pickup. Don't know how many times I saw these douches fuck up yesterday.

  4. I used my 4WD for about 5 hours yesterday. I don't normally do that but I had to drive in KCMO for about 3-4 hours yesterday and had no choice. I saw several idiots in big honkin 4WD's that thought they could drive the regular speed limit or faster. I also saw idiots without their headlights on...they don't get that it is not about them seeing but them being seen. I didn't have any problems and just kept my cool. Got home safe and sound. Never saw a snowplow until I crossed back over into Kansas.

  5. Idiots! Everyone knows that the laws of physics do not apply to 4x4s or the interwebs, or is it the innertubes? I forget.

Not to worry, not to worry at all. Global warming has cancelled all snow. What you see outside is just Hillary Clinton trying to trick you! Pay no attention.

  8. And you don’t need more than four or five times a year, I dont have it and don’t care to get it, too much money and expensive to repair

  9. ^^^ Also a good idea. So it was only once or twice this year. A damn shame to waste tens of thousands of dollars on it.

When Airport Committee members Justus, Lucas, and Reed climbed into blue barrels for a campaign photo-op, KCMO drivers ripped them a new one!!!

  12. AWD is a must if you live in the Midwest. Sorry libtards but you can keep that Prius in the garage, it's not going anywhere in the weather today.

  13. Geezers want gas guzzlers. That makes sense.

  14. My AWD suv got around pretty good yesterday. I was more worried about someone else driving like an idiot and running into me.

  15. All an AWD is good for is to get one farther in before getting stuck.

    Golly it's terrible

  17. Insurance companies have already figured out that 4x4 drivers lose 20 IQ points when it snows. That is why they charge you extra for your truck.

  18. No matter what you drive, it doesn't stop well on ice. Our little Huyandais and VW's work just fine. I passed lots of bigger, heavier vehicles. The worst snow car I ever had was a 1987 Lincoln Town Car, 18 feet long, but couldn't go in show at all.

  19. They need to make smaller all wheel drive cars. Insane the amount of collusion in the American auto industry!

  20. I got a big ass 4 wheel drive. It will go anywhere. I got lot of soccer moms in Prairie Village that want to get fucked hard and I got to go when they’re wanting it.

    1. Big ass 4 wheel drive typically equals 3” pecker which I highly doubt any soccer mom is craving.
