SHOCK!!! CLAY CHASTAIN THREATENS TO REVERSE MLK NAME CHANGE ON THE PASEO IF ELECTED KANSAS CITY MAYOR!!!

It's Black History Month but that hasn't stop Kansas City's most prolific petitioner from making a bold promise to his growing base of supporters.

The pledge:

IN HIS LATEST CAMPAIGN BLAST CLAY CHASTAIN SEYZ HE'LL DENY THE MLK NAME CHANGE OF THE PASEO IF ELECTED AS KANSAS CITY MAYOR!!!

He's the only candidate talking about this issue in addition to some some of the other municipal dilemmas. And so, in essence Kansas City will have a vote on the MLK Name Change in the mayoral primary.

Here's the word . . .

Mayoral Candidate Clay releases stance on top 10 KC issues.

Unlike most most of the mayoral candidates who are afraid of alienating some segment of voters by taking a specific stance on the issues (especially Steve Miller who defers taking positions ((PRE K sales tax, etc.)) until he can have his hand held by his handlers), Clay is his own handler and now releases, in brief, his stance on the top 10 KC issues:

#1. New airport: Oppose it. Favor "Alt 30" renovation plan for KCI which costs substantially less and provides better safety, security, convenience and accessibility.

#2. High homicides: Tragic and completely unacceptable. Will initiate immediate bold action to make our City safer.

#3. High taxes: Eliminate earnings tax and the bureaucratic and ineffective ATA's extra 3/8-cent sales tax. Will vote against Sly's Pre K sales tax.

#4. Neglected infrastructure: Stop tax abatement handouts for corporate developer's glitzy projects and apply to street repair.

#5. Streetcar expansion: Stop it, and invest in real, rapid and expanded modern transit system to help people get to jobs, move about the City and grow Kansas City.

#6 Affordable housing: Largely handled by the free market place - not City Hall. However, provide reasonable City incentives to encourage construction of small efficient houses on vacant city lots (partnering with Habitat for Humanity) and develop affordable apartment units in unused school buildings.

#7. Pre K sales tax: Really oppose it. Because... school district doesn't support it, regressive sales taxes are already too high and it could be used as possible slush fund.

#8. Tax abatement: First thing I will do is to move to eliminate TIF and the EDC and use that savings to hire new community police officers and initiate an "Advantage Youth" plan to prevent violent crime.

#9. Trashy and littered neighborhoods: No matter what it takes, we will have a clean and tidy City when I'm mayor.

#10. Paseo name change: Even though this is not an important issue, it does reflect an important mind set. Leave the street name alone. Focus on "Content of character" - not content of street name.

  1. I think it'll be surprising and possibly controversial to see if Clay gets much support from this one. It is pretty far down on his priority list but I'm surprised he mentioned it as all.

    1. For the money spent to the family,$360 grand a year for a name change along with the cost of changing signs along with headaches it will cost homeowners it is a bigger priority than advertised

    1. The primary is to weed out people like Clay.

  8. YES !!!! Clay and Alissia going against the status quo these two need to team up and bring commmon sense back to city hall.

  9. Great Top 10! Can’t remember a Top 3 from Sly. He has my vote. Name a Top 5 for any candidates now? Crickets.

    Top 5 Additions for Clay:

    1. Abolish KC Star. Just use eminent domain and declare it a public nuisance. All it does is divide people and stir up trouble with left-wing editorials and sucks the money out of tax-payers.

    2. Declare a Dumbass Day once a Month. Start National and work your way local. First time recipient has to be AOC... hands down. She will probably misunderstand and celebrate this with the job losses.

    3. Declare February “Pot Hole” month and find city-friendly judges to sentence Sly to filling potholes for a week. If he refuses then find the largest landfill around and name it after him. What a legacy!

    4. Sell the Plaza Tennis Courts. They are owned by the Parks & Rec (true!). Use this money to for someone to finish the perpetual work on Wornall. Bonus is we change the name by just using the first 4 letters.

    5. Get rid of the traffic lights on Bruce Watkins. Make whoever is responsible for adding them... thinking it would add economic benefits -pay back the cost. All the wrecks and pedestrians hit - this should be an easy decision.

    Bonus:

Put Frank White and Carwash Cleaver in charge Finances for the Star after Eminent Domain is declared. What could go wrong?

  10. If Clay could just get over his obsession with the Amish bus he would get a lot of votes with an otherwise good agenda.

  11. I agree with all 10 points.

  12. I can't believe I'm writing this, but I may vote for Clay Chastain!

  13. He has my vote. Any candidate that opposes colored interests is good.

  14. I'm with Clay on this deal! That name change is nothing more than a black power thing, and the cost is a waste of money that should be going to the things promised but are not happening. This name change like some of the other posts is going to be very expensive for tax payers not to mention the business owners on Paseo that have to change their address not a cheap thing to do. I also don't think most people realize that MLK was a Republican, if they did they would realize that the Kings give a lot of money to the Republican party. I think because he was a black man and wanted to change the black and white issue in this country that he was a democrat. Not so.

    My vote goes with Clay

  15. And don’t forget that the mlk Park is going to get big money spent on updating it. Gopher boi still won’t answer the question of how much we’ve been paying them for 41yrs now of having his name on a park. Almost forgot about the school already named after him too.

  16. At least he states where he stands and does not mince words. Hopefully he will keep the pot hole pansy program. Definitely has my vote.

    All the way with Clay.

  20. Hone run candidate. Clay could turn this City around.

  21. This would all be encouraging if Clay didn't live in Virginia and would be thrown out of office if he won.

    ReplyDelete
  22. #2--say more about this "bold action to make the city safer." Just words.
And keep in mind, Clay doesn't live in KC, and has no experience with city government. A lot of fools and racists (but I repeat myself) will support Clay to the detriment of all KCMO residents.

    ReplyDelete
  23. It's fine how is people who say clay is not a real candidate or he lives in Virginia. these people basically don't care about the safety or the other citizens of Kansas City all they care about is their own self

  24. Wasn't there a hospital on the east side that was also named after Martin Luther King? Its closed now.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm starting to support clay and i feel weird about it

  26. Laugh at him all you want; Clay’s the best thing that could happen to KC.

  28. @3:25 - As far as Clay not living in Kansas City, neither does Sly James, why haven't you been harping on that for the past eight years?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Please just not anyone currently on council who is running for mayor. They clearly contributed to this airport mess and should not be rewarded for it with a promotion.

  30. Where do I get my Clay Chastain's, or any other white taxpayer candidate's yard sign?

  33. Clay has had a breakthru. He never mentioned light rail. So he may have a shot. More name recognition that the other 8 dwarves combined.

Remember, Donald Trump was an outsider/drain the swamp candidate, as well.

All we are saying, is give Clay a chance.

Can't possibly be worse than what we have.

  34. Clay is the only candidate with an agenda... He's not afraid to put it out there. He IS NOT TAKING DONATIONS FROM ANYBODY! He won't be obligated. He will be his own man and will surround himself with smart advisors...

Clay will show us the way!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Kansas City is so smart they can predict potholes. They just can't then fill them in.

    So Smart.

Clay is the way to save the day........

but what will the political grifters do then

    ReplyDelete
  36. If Clay is running against ten of the usual suspects who have been rendered incapable by their apprenticeship under Sly then we think he breaks the game wide open.

Be nice to see those smug law firms behind the scenes actually have to start doing honest work.

  37. Brown don't like name change from Paseo.
