Will Oak Park Die Without Nordstrom's?!?

About 18 months ago, a few newsies mistakenly took the Shawnee Mission Post seriously because it was run by a guy that looks like your daughter's 1st husband before she got divorced and started dating a DJ . . . You try and ask why things didn't work out but don't really want to know what she means when she says she feels more "deeply fulfilled" then she ever did with her ex. Ewwwww.

Now, while it literally hurts me to link it, the rag is carrying developer hype leveraging "influence" amid the last days of retail . . . Read the headline, don't click the link. I'm pretty sure the Shawnee Mission Post causes cancer.

Update . . . Also, I'm pretty sure that all of the rampant gun fire in and around the Oak Park food court is a bigger "existential" problem than the empty department store that your grandma visits once in November every year. This would be obvious if Mr. Senter didn't have "salary envy" of every pretend JoCo power player and their 2014 luxury SUVs.

LANE4 says Nordstrom's departure could pose 'existential threat' to future of Oak Park Mall

  1. While Nordstrom is a nice store, I think most Oak Park shoppers are more the Macy’s/Dillard’s/Penney’s crowd. They may browse at Nordstrom and even make an occasional purchase, but I don’t think they will quit shopping at Oak Park when Nordstrom moves. What WILL make them quit going there are random shootings and carjackings.

  2. agree..the real threat is crime

  3. I like Nordstrom’s because a lot of women that work there still wear dresses and pantyhose. Most of them have succulent breasts and luscious thighs and asses.

  4. You mean somebody actually believes that Nordstroms will leave Oak Park Mall and move into the core of the Ghetto?

Nah, 135th Street maybe, but never "The Landing II", they'd have to change their name to "Nodstums" for the month they'd be open before everything in the store had "disappeared"!

  5. ^^Ugh huh... it's time to go now. There's a mess by the Slurpee machines.

  6. Oak Park mall is basically a third world country now. All the kiosks are run by mohammad and his 12 teenage wives and the clientele is the relatives of those somali pirates who kidnapped tom hanks. Not surprised Nordstroms wants to get out.

As for the plaza, i'll believe they're moving there when i see it. Right now I believe them as much as jason kander and his "PTSD" excuse

  7. @8:00 You're the human slurpee machine. Get ready Gramps is on his way.

  8. @8:43 You're the weakest poster on here. You don't seem to get how this works. You are wholly unoriginal, absolutely devoid of the slightest bit of wit or humor, and utterly boring. Please get some new material. You're being lapped by the competition almost as much as by your lab when you get the peanut butter out.

  9. I seriously doubt Mr.Senter even shops at Nordstrom. Also I'd never bank anything on what Lane 4 says. As earlier mention a majority of the shoppers at Oak Park are a Macy’s/Dillard’s/Penney’s crowd. Look, the shopping center survived when Montgomery Wards shut down they will probably survive this, maybe.

Crime and gun shots will kill this shopping center faster than a store like Nordstrom pulling out. Look it killed Indian Springs and Bannister Mall. People stop going to places they no longer feel safe in being at no matter what the squirrels/hater posters on this site say. It's the old geezers such as myself who spend the money because we have the extra money. The kids are raised and gone our investments are paying off and we have better cash flow than say those under 35 or 40.

But Nordstrom is a high end store along the line of Bloomingdales and I questioned when they opened in Oak Park if they would be able to generate what it would take to cover paying for the amount of square footage they had not counting their share of the CAM charges. Nordstrom struggles with same fundamental issues as other retailers.Nordstrom has experienced deteriorating fundamentals as competition heats up and consumer tastes evolve. A fair amount of Nordstroms income comes from their discounted stores Nordstrom Rack where the goods they can't get you to spend more money when the latest fashions come out end up at reduced pricing which middle income folks are more inclined to buy.

A smaller store located at the Plaza is more what Nordstrom should have done instead of going to Oak Park to begin with.

  11. No, 12:28 -
Dave wasn't talking about "People" with guns,
he was describing "Our Fine Upstanding African American Residents"!
    Get it?
    Not "People", just "them".
Human beings with guns are just fine.
