Google Fiber Blog: Saying Goodbye to Louisville

From the consumer level, Google Fiber is light years ahead of any other Kansas City area Internets provider. So much so that competitors were forced to change their name and rebrand in order to try and keep up.

However, this move should send a chill of fear up the spin of many locals who think of the Internet as a utility and not a service.

  1. I predict they will be out of here when their ten year contract is up.

  2. Google Fiber Data Collecting and Mining service.

Main reason I didn't get it. We don't get paid for providing them with content they sell off every second of the day.

  7. If folks are considering Google, I strongly urge them to check out on-line comments about their customer service. They may have second thoughts.

All internet and cable/satellite providers are whores to some extent (Demonstrated by predictable rate increases, because they're never satisfied.).

  8. doesn't matter, they built the infrastructure in KC so some company will buy it if they leave and serve up fiber internet.

  9. Sounds like louisville was one of their test markets for a new installation market that didn't go well. They were burying cable literally two inches below the ground to try and save costs. It came back and bit them. Not sure this implies it will be going away in KC since they did a proper installation here, but it does show they will leave a market.

I hate google as a company but I have google fiber and have always had really good customer service and ability to actually talk to someone so I do recommend them over all the other isps in the area

Spectrum is a nightmare. They can have my shopping data, i don't buy anything anyway. But that cable is hot fire.

  11. Yes, the installation in Louisville was corner-cutting edge tech, and ours was standard, but the recent mega-outage where many Fiber customers were without service for two weeks and never got a straight answer about what was happening shows that they have both technical and customer service issues. The whole venture will be cancelled if they don't work that out.
