  1. Not too difficult a situation to understand, the Schools want to get the money directly themselves, and Sly James wants the money to come to him, so he distribute it as he sees fit.

Somehow, the Schools aren't willing to go along with Mayor James' plan, as unreasonable as that attitude may be.

  2. NO PROPERTY TAXES to pay for this boondoggle!!! you cannot keep taxing the few property owner taxpayers left in this hole of a City; most people with any sense whatsoever have already left and the ones like me who are still here just keep getting squeezed and squeezed; I pity the elderly, pay off your house, retire, think life is good only to have the city tax you into bankruptcy and take your house; too few taxpayers and too many stupid ideas and too many greedy politicians just wanting to spend dollars on pet projects that really don't help anybody!

  4. I know a few retired people who have had their house payed for a long time and are being taxed out of their house. They have to set up payments and by the time they get that paid it's tax time again. The real sad thing is, they don't see where their tax dollars are going. Kansas City is a dysfunctional city and also very corrupt! Mayor James is the leading cause of this, he's has been more than detrimental to this city.

  5. "According to the mayor’s plan, only 25 to 30 percent of the approximately $30 million in sales-tax revenue will be spent for direct services to children during the first three years." You can bet that after 3 years the direct services will be much less. Slie's lie has been uncovered and makes it obvious why the schools do not support Slie's plan.
Just as several on TKC have previously stated this will be a slush fund for Slie to the tune of $21 to $22.5 million.

  6. And it's a pretty good bet that a close examination would disclose that James would still be the one controlling the funds even after he leaves office.

  7. Sales taxes fluctuate with the economy, so they're not at all an appropriate way to fund either programs or salaries, which need predictability to be effective.
So, if a sales tax is designed to fully fund a program in the down years, it unfortunately produces excess in the good years, which then creates either a slush fund or program expansion based on money available and not on need.
This is a really bad idea, and not only because of the inappropriate funding mechanism, but even more because education is not either a responsibility nor a role of city government.
Try focusing on the murder rate, Sly.

  8. And here comes someone else who wants to dig a little deeper into taxpayers pockets. Maybe instead of a tax they could shave a little off administrators salaries, perks, car allowances and bottomless expense accounts.

  9. Eliminate the Jazz Museum board of directors and take the money you save here and give it to the Pre K budget.
You could also eliminate the 18th and Vine wasted funds on a forward moving basis. This money could also go to Pre K.
You could also eliminate Reed's travel to conventions. These wasted funds could also go to Pre K...

  10. i Live in the Northland between Gladstone and NKC. I very rarely spend money in KC with its high sales tax. Feel sorry for midtown residents who don"t have the option. As above comments, so many silly, useless and wasteful expenditures which would easily pay for this silly idea.
