KMBC: KCPD releases initial police reports of mishandled crimes against children cases

Deets:

Kansas City police have released heavily redacted records showing the initial police reports for 149 mishandled cases that became the subject a nearly three-year long internal investigation into its Crimes Against Children unit.

Though redacted, the records show the heavy volume of victims and witnesses involved in cases that police Chief Rick Smith said did not get the full attention they deserved from officers, detectives, and commanders between 2011 and 2016.

Seventeen police department employees faced discipline after the internal investigation. Seven are no longer with the department.

  1. Police aren't often the right people to call when there is a crime involving minors. They're only good at taking people to jail.

I'm glad the chief is recruiting more social workers because that is the real solution to the problem.

  2. Have to agree with 8:25 pm Asking the police to "protect" the innocent and prevent crime is like asking a cat to read a book. Impossible. All they can do is "maybe" catch a criminal and write a report about it.

  3. We have to protect those children until they’re old enough to be protected by Jean Petersucker Baker, the weakest prosecutor ever
