Kansas City used to be considered an affordable place to live. Now that some downtown rents are reaching $1,500 a month for a single unit, that's no longer true, and city leaders are wrangling with how to change that.

  4. You really can't subsidize "luxury" apartments and make believe those tenants are "living large" in vibrant downtown KCMO, and then turn around and "demand" that some units in the same building have to be offered at lower than market rate rents.
    This metro ain't New York and it's comical to watch Sly and the gang now make believe they're going to try to solve a problem that they themselves created.
    That's the kind of thing that constantly happens when elected people have no vision or plans, or even interest in municipal public policy, but instead get jerked around by one group or issue after another.
    Social engineering at its most amateur.

  5. The socialism started when they were giving public money to buy spas and rooftops for BNIM & Cordish. The council had plenty of time to be proactive about this issue. It was an obvious consequence of funding strict luxury houses. The bill is about to come due and KCMO should remember this when Sly tries to run for Cleaver's old seat.
