Man sentenced to prison for series of crimes resulting in Independence officer's shooting

A Jackson County judge has sentenced a 30-year-old man to prison for a series of crimes that resulted in the shooting of an Independence police officer.Joseph Wyatt was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the robbery and kidnapping of Billy Fowler, 82, in March 2017, that also resulted in the shooting of Independence police Officer Tom Wagstaff.Wagstaff was shot in the head just after responding to the home invasion call.
