City Market Tacitly Agrees Parking Sucks And Streetcar Chases Away Customers

The Kansas City toy train has decimated small biz inside a once booming part of town. The only thing left is speculative condos, lofts and hipster hangouts financed by sketchy foreign speculators. Here's a plan to basically add more parking and create a way to avoid the folly trolley disaster. Presser stolen from a developer backed blog:

  1. An issue in the CBD as well is the lack of streets that flow through. Seriously. Inside the downtown freeway noose there are precious few streets that don’t dead end. Some are by historical reality e.g. Baltimore dead ends at the building with the eagle. 11th Street kind of dies in the dog-leg at pickwick/Main Street provably due to the existence of a creek there back in the day.

But many streets are dead ends bc of planning folly. E.g. cherry dead ends at federal bldg. McGee, 14th Street, and 14th ter all dead-end at empty sprint center. The $350 million taxpayer subsidized drinking district called “power and light” also interrupts many streets. And the cutouts along 6th Street on north and ~Truman on south are breaking up street passageways (as well as at about Harrison on east side of loop). I could cite several examples and maybe you have noticed others. And then there are elective streeet closures like how they inexplicably close grand and walnut during any event at sprint or at P&L.

It all adds up to madddenig situation for motorists and a false congestion that strangles the CBD (an aside: do our planning geniuses not want a CBD any more? Bc it seems like we are going into insane debt to chase after housing developments downtown...) ok my rant is over. Thanks,

  3. ^^^City planners made it that way, hoping you'd give up trying to find your way out of downtown and buy an apartment there.

  4. ^^^^^Careful. Gopher's been up all night, and we don't want him triggered.

  5. Most of the people down there are homosexuals anyway, so they should like the fact that parking “sucks”.

  6. Oh just wait parking is about to get worse in river market district when river market west apartments complete their expansion building. It’s awful trying to park in that area and then the city of course comes in and raped everyone with the new parking meters and rules.

  7. The fact is, Kansas City is not an easy city to get around in if you're not from here. It's laid out pretty bad but it's been that way for years.

Sly's problem is, he keeps planning with dollar signs in his eyes and doesn't make the new developers or any other new projects allow for parking. That's not important to him, he's no business man and sits on his brains. So he has created huge problems for Kansas City. Not to mention the new buildings look cheap and tacky because there is no zoning and planning.

  11. The presence of a lot of dead end streets in the CBD is directly relevant to the blog post about re opening walnut between 3rd and 5th. To comment at 10:19.

  14. I was merely posting an observation about a downtown planning and street layout topic on a local matters blog. I do not wish to have conflict with anyone.
    Thanks,

  15. Hurry up and get rid of the Steamboat Arabia Museum and use the space for more parking. Also, must flatten Cascone's for more space.
