Cinnabon Coming Soon: Is The Country Club Plaza Still Kansas City's Crown Jewel?!?!

This destination shopping district was once the pride and joy of river city and many often mistook it for our downtown. The outdoor mall sparked copycats across the nation and served as a postcard shot for KC for decades . . . And now it's home to a pastry shop that locals can find near just about every airport bathroom in the nation. Here's sneak peek whilst we ponder the bigger question:

Cinnabon and Auntie Anne's set to open this week on the Plaza

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- You'll soon be able to get cinnamon rolls and soft pretzels in one stop on the Country Club Plaza. Cinnabon and Auntie Anne's pretzels will open Friday at 112 W. 47th Street, next to Cold Stone Creamery. The dual operation is owned by local franchisees Erik and Vanessa Garcia.

  2. I have often wondered, how any of those businesses down there, except for restaurants, sell enough product consistently in order to stay in business. Apple Store, Forever 21, Art of Shaving, the other home decor and furnishings stores, and so on...

A retail business must sell enough product continuously in order to pay expenses, turn a profit, and stay in business. How do any of those kind of stores down there that sell merchandise, maintain a sufficient enough level of sales to keep going? And not just on the Plaza but anywhere? How many of those specialty and specific retail stores down on the Plaza have merchandise that are of consistent interest to a lot of people who actually want to buy it?

  3. No the Plaza is no where near KC's crown jewel. It's a trashy joke just like geezer hater. It's also very dirty.

@10:40-Typical buttboi reaction. You're there often for that frosty momentum, like, dodging gunfire and diving into the bushes, rushing by all those panhandlers, and trying to avoid the robbers in piss scented garages, between frequent Plaza security and popos' pursuit of terrorizing "teens".

  7. The Plaza is slowly dying and that's a fact unless a real turn around in dealing with crime and loitering/freeloaders takes place.

  10. Developers were trying to save the plaza but they imposed mandate height restrictions that severely limit office space growth. Basically, only shitty food chains can fit in these spaces since it's so limited. An employer with 20-100 employees would just move the half mile across the state line where there are less restrictions. Kansas wins every time for business, unfortunately

Height and density shouldn't be restricted for Plaza buildings. Cramming in as many towering, tacky boxes as possible will bring this cowtown the cachet it craves. Block out the sun and trap all that vehicle exhaust and sewer fumes. Let those stucco, brick, concrete, and other surfaces wear a dingy coat of dusty smoot from the curb to, at least, the second story. You know, like the gritty dark gray gunk plastered on the skyscrapers and adjacent storefronts in their shadows along the blocks in the Big Apple, Windy City, Boston, and all the urban jungle paradises.

  14. Think about this- what customers would be attracted to Cinnabon?
    - not uppity shoppers... kale and healthy they eat.
    - maybe teenies and the crapola crowd. So it’s finally down to attract the anti-Nordstrom people.
Plaza is gone as we know it...

Top 3 Store Ideasvor the Plaza:

    1.Dollar Store
    2. Kmart-(Just AOC it... just bring it back)
    3. Jiffy Libe
Bonus: Combo Payday loan / Nail salon
