TKC TOLD YOU SO!!! SKEPTICS WINNING FIGHT AGAINST KANSAS CITY STREETCAR AS FEDERAL FUNDING DISAPPEARS!!!
Here's just a bit of encouragement as critic of this controversial mode of transit seem to be resonating in Washington D.C. whilst they're shut out by local media in favor of sponsored contest . . .
TKC BLOG COMMUNITY SKEPTICISM FORCED TOY TRAIN ADVOCATES TO SCRAMBLE AND PUT FAKE NEWS ON BLAST AFTER A YEAR OF FAIL!!!
In a recent and far more balanced post we reminded locals that:
- UMKC rejected the downtown campus gambit and that was the biggest driver of public tax dollars to extend the line to the Plaza & beyond.
- Federal funding fell apart as the litany of complaints against rigged votes and developers hijacking Democracy clearly resonated in D.C.
- The very popular Missouri Auditor who was reelected by a landslide declared that Transportation Development Districts like the toy train scheme are ‘rigged against the citizens’
The reaction from our blog community basically agreed and added even more apt criticism.
And today, lazy local fake news agents put their own spin on blast:
Kansas City Streetcar Ridership Up In 2018, Fed Shutdown May Delay Word On Expansion
^^^^ That's not news, it's pathetic and it's worth noting that part of this glorified press release was authored by a local hack who also worked the Burns & Mac after he was punted by the daily newspaper in between consulting gigs for local development firms including toy train advocates BNIM.
When it gets really down and dirty, streetcar advocates send threats of violence and personal insults our way along with spam and DOS attacks.
Reality . . .
OUR TKC BLOG COMMUNITY SHARES SKEPTICAL CRITICISM BASED ON HARD DATA FROM THE TOY TRAIN (YEAH!) WHILE SUPPORTERS RELY ON PRESS RELEASE SPONSORED CONTENT DREAMED UP BY PAID HACKS TO KEEP UP THEIR COSTLY CHARADE!!!
Never mind that those sensors counting ridership have always been sketchy and we've demonstrated that our smallish line fudges the numbers when bigger, better cities don't have the same kind extravagant counts.
Developing . . .
Here's better news for you TKC.
ReplyDeleteLook for another sales tax to support the streetcar if more federal funding doesn't come through.
I don't care about the debate over riders let's talk about fairness.
DeleteWhen are they going to charge a fare for the streetcar just like the rest of the KC ATA and stop the discriminatory practice of a free transit system for "professionals" and then paid transit for everyone else?
I think people would rather ride the scooters. It seems like more fun.
DeleteKC has more streetcar riders than Denver and Dallas.
ReplyDeleteI TOTALLY believe that!
Streetcar = Sly's legacy
DeleteFailure= Slys legacy
DeleteDon't be such haters.
ReplyDeleteMORE TRANSIT IS BETTER FOR EVERYONE!
We should focus on providing more transit alternatives for our entire community, not destroying the resources we already have!
Bullshit.
DeleteThe streetcar novelty ride isn't about transit. Never has been. It's always been about swindling taxpayers, lying about ridership, and pumping more money into a little rectangle of downtown to the expense of the rest of the city.
Streetcar's 2 mile, $102 million li'l route is cannibalizing bus service. Significant route cuts and trims since it's advent + KCATA has kicked in millions of it's funds toward the TDD/streetcar authority swindle. Thanks Tony. We need leadership and good policy not embarrassing townie boosterism.
DeleteRadish
Drive the Streetcar straight up Sly’s fat lard ass.
ReplyDeleteThey would never get the stench out.
DeleteThe plan to get some Federal transit pork by building a sub-standard and expensive mini train has failed. It was a bad idea even when national taxpayers were footing 75% of the cost. Now that the locals will be paying for all of it, instead of repairs to existing streets and bridges, the streetcar has proven to be a boondoggle of the highest order.
ReplyDeleteCee bee - exactly - this is one of those situations where truly we can say 'i hate to say I told you so". I don't delight in this massive public policy failure because of all the pressing needs our city has that will remain unfunded due to streetcar fail. Where is the city leader to step up and declare this emperor isn't wearing any clothes.
DeleteThanks,
Radish
Fads come and go.
ReplyDeleteAnd some end up being way more expensive than others and last a long long time.
THE streetcar has been a joke from the beginning and the city created a new quasi-public unaccountable "agency" whose major job has been to protect its own existence.
KCMO is full of these obscure and unaccountable appointed groups who mostly look out for themselves and their supporters and who give away millions in tax breaks and spend millions in public money.
THE streetcar will certainly not be expanding, but it will be a sucking chest wound on the city's financial condition for decades.
"TKC BLOG COMMUNITY SKEPTICISM FORCED TOY TRAIN ADVOCATES TO SCRAMBLE AND PUT FAKE NEWS ON BLAST AFTER A YEAR OF FAIL!!!"
ReplyDeleteNo it didn't. The streetcar folks think you're a fucking Show-Me Institute stooge who thinks change is the boogeyman.
Which is 100% accurate
Is that lil' Davie Johnson, the whisper-thin streetcar cheerleader and boy about town?
DeleteSorry, tiger. Eventually any fraud starts to smell bad. ;)
4:26 (aka Gopher): The bus is transit. The streetcar is nostalgia. Learn the difference.
ReplyDeleteWas a stupid idea to start and is a stupid idea now and will always be a stupid idea.
ReplyDeleteMmaaannnnn this street car some jive turkey
ReplyDeleteDesperate people/groups/organizations/government agencies do desperate things. The fair weather toy train group will blow smoke and put a spin on everything related to it just to prop themselves up.
ReplyDeleteAgree with poster about charging for riding the fair weather toy train and when that happens ridership will drastically drop. Admission fees should be bankrolled and used to pay for wrecker service when the toy train jumps the track.
^^^ +25,000,000 lies
ReplyDeleteThe streetcar/toy-train people hate poor people.
ReplyDeleteWhy else would they let the rich ride free and charge for the ATA?
Solution:
Raise the city earnings tax to 4% on those making more than 100k a year.
Ocasio-Cortez would love this and she is a Democrat also.
That money could help fund free ATA for all like the pseudo-modern electric-train-Street-car.
The toy train supporters hate poor people and their votes should be revealed so we can see their names.
Shame on the people who hate poor people. These Democrats should move to Russia and support other communists!
Bulyboy Russ Johnson still takes credit for being "the guy behind the streetcar" on his linkedin profile.
ReplyDeleteThat'll have to change in another year or two.
Bullyboy, that is.
ReplyDelete4:28 wins comment of the day award.
ReplyDeleteWhen someone has to point out how fair one of his posts was at some point you know he's a biased liar most of the time, right Tony?
ReplyDeleteStreet car is voter suppression.
ReplyDeleteLots of haters of the streetcar but I'm guessing most of you don't even ride it. It is really fun and very useful. Don't hate it, participate!
ReplyDeleteThe wheels are falling off the great scam bus now aren’t they! Hahahahaha!
ReplyDeletesLIE and gopher boi are having an aneurysm over this....... and getting drunk pretending that this is all a nightmare!
7:34 doesn’t matter if we ride it or not, we’re paying for something that was voted down, the mayor deserves prison time for this.
ReplyDelete7:34, why would I ride the streetcar if I own a car, or have bus fare?
ReplyDeleteKeep writing Trumpand tell him KC hates the streetcar and the city hates him.
ReplyDeleteTell Trump City Hall is communist and the toy train is full of anti trump people.
Tell him toy train rides hate the wall.
Let’s put the toy train in the scrap heap where it, city hall, and the KC Star belong.
7:54 for a serious discussion.
ReplyDeleteVery nice, see you guys at the KC Streetcar expansion groundbreaking
ReplyDelete^^^^^^^ You've been saying that for five years and it still hasn't happened yet. Everytime they try, KC votes NO.
ReplyDeleteThe City Council anti-democracy street car expansion. Was it the Baptist ministers influence which was the tipping point?
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should rename the street car the MLK Street car???
Mr Lucas?
^^^^^As I recall, the ministers were against the streetcar when we had the city-wide vote. Voters were against the toot toot 70-30, and the east side was even more against it. At the time Mensa boy said the east side had voted against the Prospect MAX, which was part of the proposal, and they wouldn't get the MAX. But they did, anyway, which just goes to show passing the Mensa test is not necessarily proof of prognosticating ability--or much else, for that matter.
ReplyDelete"I'd rather spend that funding on a useless wall" - Every dipshit TKC poster
ReplyDeleteKCMO is doing everything it can to price everyone out of the city limits. JOCO may seem more expensive initially but it's a far better deal. Anyone starting a business is far better off doing so on the Kansas side of the border
ReplyDeleteI'm the wildman, I consult tony's blog all day long.
ReplyDeleteLOVE It!
As for the streetcar, not my cup of tea.
