Let's call this the bait and switch update that our blog community noted nearly two weeks ago . . .
Fox4: Consultant says agreement on new single-terminal KCI airport ‘weeks’ away
That's an optimistic prediction but here are the deets:
Lou Salomon said the airlines are coming to grips with the $1.64 billion price tag.
Salomon represents airlines serving KCI. He said the costs associated with a new terminal won't be a surprise to airline executives.
Eight carriers at KCI have been reviewing plans for a new terminal, and all are in agreement with the design and functionality of a new larger terminal than originally proposed, with more gates.
Salomon reassured city council members that this project will not "crater."
"That’s my calming message. Relax. This is normal," Salomon said. "This is a very expensive project. Airports are a very complicated environment. You’re not just moving people. You’re moving cars. You are moving baggage. You’re moving airplanes."
Salomon told council members not to expect all eight carriers to sign long-term leases to operate at KCI.
Translation . . .
KCI WILL LOSE AIRLINES THANKS TO THE PRICEY NEW AIRPORT!!!
The consequence of this is that locals might have to pick up the tab for this lousy deal that grows increasingly more costly by the day.
Remember the REAL cost is closer to $4-BILLION and already KCMO needs to borrow at least 72-million to keep the thing running.
Developing . . .
What's 4 billion between friends.
ReplyDeleteAs long as we get that fountain, I'm sure everything will be fine.
So, the taxpayers lose again since some airlines may not sign long term leases thus higher ticket prices for fliers.
ReplyDeleteEverything the orange clown touches turns to shit. The Mueller report can't get here fast enough so him and his fellow autocrats can go to prison.
ReplyDeleteWho planned this thing? I hope they're not running for mayor!
ReplyDeleteJolie Justus planned a lot of it and YES she is running for mayor.

It's only 2 billion dollars
At this point, the only question is who can we sue personally for misrepresentation and gross negligence and incompetence when we lose airlines, lose flights and have to dip into city finances in spite of their assurances of the opposite?
ReplyDeleteTurn Nicole Galloway lose on this fiasco and let her use it for training grounds for her department. The new airport plan is the perfect model for waste, fraud and abuse.
ReplyDeleteSeems everything about this town is a despicable sick joke.
ReplyDeleteSad.

ReplyDeleteHow much is Lou Salomon raking in for presiding over this boondoggle?
ReplyDeleteIf we lose carriers then how can this be good for Kansas Citians?? Our airport is convenient and has surprisingly good options and even a few int'l flights. It is working fine! A little dated and stodgy but very functional.
