First, a quick peek at a weekend gathering that might or might not sway voter opinion . . .
Northeast residents grill KCMO mayoral candidates at forum
Hint at low attendance:
Eight of the 11 candidates for mayor sat on stage and answered an array of questions, ranging from homelessness to development incentives.
Most of the seats weren't filled at Northeast High School, but those who attended were engaged.
Fact is, polite discussion of Kansas City politics among well informed voters has mostly failed to change the status quo. Very few politicos have used these forums to leverage more votes and they're mostly focused on preserving the ILLUSION OF A VIBRANT LOCAL DEMOCRACY.
Whilst we applaud the local efforts of the organizers, participants and attendees. We put the question to our blog community of news junkies tonight . . .
ARE KANSAS CITY MAYORAL AND CITY COUNCIL FORUMS A WASTE OF TIME?!??!
You decide . . .
OF COURSE they're a waste but that doesn't mean that they aren't important. These neighborhood meetings give people to see the candidates up close and do their best to find somebody who represents their interests.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget that most people don't vote. So low attendance shouldn't really matter that much. The voters who do cast their ballots have more say and their voices should be informed.
^^^^ I wish there was some kind of daily newspaper in KC that believed the same thing.
DeleteIt was a waste of time if clay wasn’t there
ReplyDeleteReally, they are useful in theory to allow voters to know what a candidate is thinking. However, since all we have running are a bunch of liars, forums are not very useful. The developers will tell them what to think anyway.
ReplyDeleteQuinton Lucas could use a forum to come all the way out of the closet and admit he is a homosexual.
ReplyDeleteKeep on making him more relatable buddy! You're doing great

Klay
Sure is a waste with that bunch.
ReplyDeleteWell the custodians got overtime pay. So there's that.
ReplyDeletePretty much a waste of time in that the candidates, if elected, will do what they want regardless of comments during these forums.
ReplyDeleteHyperblogal, that's essentially what Jolie told us four years ago when she reminded us that council members sometimes need to tell the voters what they want to hear.
DeleteYes, total waste of time. Just more of the same lame ass faces.
ReplyDeleteWhere do I get my Clay Chastain yard sign?
If the voters don't hold elected officials accountable. OF COURSE it's a waste of time. I went though, really glad the Northeast News dedicated the time to the forum. They are trying at least. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
ReplyDeleteClay wasn't at the forum because he doesn't not live in Kansas City. He should go bother someone else.
ReplyDeleteSteve Miller is the only space cowboy who can run KC.
ReplyDeleteCan't attend anyway. Spending all my time changing Paseo signs to MLKs.
ReplyDeleteOf course. the overwhelming sentiment in the greater metro area was not to change the name, the above candidates said fuck you folks, we are going to change it. Same with another 10 million to 18th and Vine. Same with streetcar extension, ad infinitum. Well, gotta move the ladder now.
^^^^^ LOL!
ReplyDeleteNot a waste of time for the Peanut Gallery @ the KC Star editorial board.
ReplyDeleteWhile they aren’t slobbering over themselves wither hatred for Catholic boys and Trump- this will help perk up their confidence in recommendations for non-Caucasian non-males.
At any time they are as predictable as knowing the next day of the week.
I would prefer a debate format. Nobody holds these people accountable.
ReplyDeleteClay for the win!
ReplyDeleteHow is the Star going to pick its favorite pinko out of this left wing group of commies ?
