TKC MUST READ!!! SOCIAL MEDIA SURVEY SEYZ NORTHEAST NEWS READERS HATE MLK RENAME ON THE PASEO!!!

Kansas City continues to argue on this longstanding topic and this community newspaper offers a bit of research, insight and advocacy for urban core neighbors who aren't on board the bandwagon to support the effort . . .

Northeast News: What about public input for Paseo re-naming?

Money line:

"Last but certainly not least, what about the overwhelming citizen opposition to this ordinance, expressed not only in unscientific social media polls but also stated during Council Legislative sessions by the Mayor and two council members? As a sidebar, public testimony has been promised by Councilman Lucas on the ordinance but never delivered. Certainly begs the question as to why."

You decide . . .

  1. I think a lot more people in Kansas City would be against it. I thought they were going to put it on the ballot for a public vote instead of trying to do it by ordinance? If we're all going to pay for it, we all deserve to have a vote.

    1. ^^^ Never going to happen, my friend.

The risk is too great that KC voters across the city would reject it and we'd make the national news as a "hostile" place for doing as much.

Sad to say, even in this day and age we have to backdoor this one.

    2. What a shame that it'l be a year debating this but still nothing has been done. Typical KCMO.

  2. About the only people who support this worthless idea and who came up with it in the first place, is the little group of usual suspect revs who rarely support much of anything unless there's something in it for themselves.
The initial financial impact of this joke has never been fully ,nor has the ongoing payments to the grifter King family, which operates pretty much like the local revs.
Keep in mind that NOTHING that the family was asked to "donate" to the Museum of African-American History in Washington ended up there because the prices demanded were too high.
It's all just an attempt to make believe yet another shakedown racket is some sort of civic project.
    Past time to move on.

      Well written comment @6:12.

I think they had their chance and now it's over for this idea. Put the MLK streets as an honorary street in 18th & Vine. They have already wasted too much time on this.

No better way to lower property values and cause business to move than hanging MLK on their address. Dumb, dumb idea. Plus we get to pay royalties to the lazy King children that live on Cantaberry Lane in La La Land.

  6. The non transparent KCMO government at its finest.

KCMO government is not going to do what the citizens want. The city government only does what they want and their projects usually turn into a cluster.

If city government did what the citizens wanted the city would be fixing the failing infrastructure, coming down hard on criminals, not giving away tons of precious taxpayer money to wealthy developers , properly directing that money towards helping fund KC’s schools, and the list goes on.

  7. This whole topic is pathetic. This City Council is the best advertisement for the Republican Party.

  8. This Council is not following the will of the people. The Council is dominated with a voting block which is dominated by the 3rd and 5th districts. The net result is that spending is directed to these districts.

  18. What I hate are arrogant people like Quinton Affirmative Action Lucas and Jermaine dipSHIT Reed that think they are the best thing since sliced bread. Both of these boobs should work in the private sector and make payroll before they should even consider being mayor. They trudge on confident they can pander to their peeps. Quinton is so arrogant I would rather have that minstrel dipSHIT Jermaine as mayor he would be more entertaining.

  22. The City Has Much bigger Problems. Or they will. They are burning Cash And after the playoffs that sales tax money will dwindle,Missouri may ban the earnings tax. Many tourists visit Kansas City only once. And next Vacation there off somewhere else. Spending money to change signs,On the Paseo. Ten people want this. And four hundred thousand don't. Ten people with nothing better to do .There are several parks you can give a name to ,One sign .

  23. I’ve never understood why the blacks set such store by MLK. There are other blacks who contributed greatly to the civil rights movement and that were of higher character than MLK.
