TKC FACT CHECK!!! CAPPING SOUTH DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY LOOP: DESPERATE VAPORWARE!!!

Right now we offer a peek of silly statement from a ruling class beneficiary of KCMO corporate welfare transcribed by the hack author of a Downtown hype blog . . .

“Loews Hotel Chairman Jonathan Tisch strongly backed an ambitious plan to cap part of the South Loop where it slices through Downtown at the Annual Luncheon of the Downtown Council on Thursday.

“When I think about a big idea, it’s right outside this convention center and that is a cap over the highway,” Tisch told the audience in the Kay Barnes Ballroom at Bartle Hall. “That is a project that needs to happen.”

Accordingly . . .

THIS IDEA TO PAVE ATOP THE LOOP IS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN AND THE HYPE IS WORSE THAN CLUELESS AMATEUR URBAN PLANNERS WHO STILL BLATHER ABOUT A DOWNTOWN STADIUM!!!

What's worse is the loose talk demonstrates developers are never satisfied with all the free money they've garnered and push for additional handouts financed by KC taxpayers.

You decide . . .

  1. Looks fun.

Creating more real estate is never a bad idea.

    Think about it.

  2. I would prefer that city hall be incased in concrete so that the mayor and council can't get to the chamber. That's the only way we'll be safe from stupid with this bunch.

  3. Doing this would be one of the smarter things the City has done. The interstate could run underneath it just fine. This and the downtown ballpark would actually benefit this city far more than any of this other bullshit that's been foisted upon the city

  6. Yes this is about as smart as the millions KCMO taxpayers put into the schools during the 90's - student amenities such as Olympic sized pools, television production studios, atriums, etc.

We saw how well that all worked out.

  7. 10:39 think of it as a bridge over a highway then remind yourself of the short lifespan of a bridge, why should our tax money and it would be a lot should be wasted on a temporary and very bad idea, kinda like the half billion apts downtown that will be empty in 10 years or less.

I would rather tax money be spent on what it’s supposed to be spent on, not given to developers

  8. Ah yes then and only then will the conventioneers from all over the world swarm to the mighty KCMO to enjoy our murder, crime, lousy weather, crap food, and most of all to mingle with our maniac citizenry.

  9. 10:44 isn’t it funny that they built swimming pools for the blacks when everybody knows they don’t and can’t swim!

  10. Tish's net worth is listed as US$1.4 billion.

Let him pay for it since he doesn't even live here for starters.

    ReplyDelete
  11. That's the reason Tish is so rich. Because of idiots like we have running city hall.

  12. 10:00: Agree except city council and the mayor should be INSIDE the encased building.

  13. Think about it while standing in that water leak created pothole.

  14. The people come up with these studid ideas to waste taxplayer money should taken out and tar and feathers

  15. Adding a park always exponentially increased surrounding property values in Sim City. But really, this park topper would be a nice addition, decreasing highway noise and increasing area value. Just get developers to pay for it.

  16. The loop was and is an urban planning failure, as are the routes of i-35 & i-70 through town. Cluster fuck of merges and exits. So do not say capping or just outright filling in of part of the loop is never going to happen. Boston spent way too much on the Big Dig, you do not even have to dig this. Whining that bridges fail, there are 'overpasses', all running across the loop, this is just making more overpasses, right next to each other. Shit I-35 is one big 'bridge' running over Southwest boulevard all the way to the convention center. You dumbshits talking smack just need to STFU.

  17. I would like to know how much traffic I-35 and i-70 would have if you took out all the cars driving through the city aka the cars not originating in the city and not stopping in the city. A plan to drive through the city is not conducive to taking a detour to get a cup of coffee in the P&L district.

  18. The highway system through downtown was done in the same spirit as 'urban renewal', remove as much 'blight' as possible.

  19. Pie in the sky - yes
staggering cost in the face of big time needs (broadway bridge over mo river, sewers obsolescence) - oh yes

But I will say it makes more sense than closing the north loop of downtown bc the south loop disconnects the CBD from the whole city while the north loop disconnects a smaller slice (river quay) from the CBD.

We all hate the downtown freeway noose aka “loop”. Can thank geniuses from the cookingham era for that idea as well as the genius idea to put the airport in Iowa.

    Thanks,
    Radish
