TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! CRIME EXPERT: BRING KCPD BACK UP TO FULL STRENGTH!!!

At the close of last year both politicos and authorities argued that the public should celebrate the progress in a reduction of murders while a number of other KCMO crimes rose.

Now . . .

SPECIAL THANKS TO THIS KANSAS CITY CRIME EXPERT FOR CRUNCHING THE NUMBERS AND ADVOCATING FOR MORE POLICE ON LOCAL STREETS!!!

Dr. Evans has been a resource for several local media outlets and his work in addressing the topic of crime offers a data-driven perspective that is often overlooked by MSM.

Moreover, putting more police on the streets has been a request of neighborhood and community advocates for years.

A special thanks to the good doctor for his reporting . . .

Dr. Ernest Evans: Crime in KCMO in 2018 Preliminary Assessment

The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU's School of Law has just released some stats on homicides in 2018. In the 30 largest US cities, homicides declined 7.6% in 2018.

KCMO's stats are in keeping with that national trend: In 2018 we had 135 homicides compared to 151 in 2017. While in KCMO homicides did not decline in 2017, in most of the US they did. So, it looks like the national and local crime surge that began in the summer of 2014 in response to the Ferguson tragedy of August 9, 2014 is receding.

However, at neither the national nor the local level is the crisis over. Nationally homicide levels are still significantly above where they were in the summer of 2014; and the same is true in KCMO--in 2014 we had 82 homicides.

The KCPD, in response to the Ferguson tragedy, had 100 fewer officers at the end of 2017 than they had at the end of 2013. If the candidates for mayor in KCMO want to do something about the city's crime surge since 2014, priority No. 1 is bringing the police force up to full strength.

  1. Not sure if KC really cares about crime. During this KC election, I think we're more concerned about development and money. That's just the way life is, people love to talk about building things and they just ignore the people getting killed whether they are white or black.

  2. The money won’t be spent on adding cops, it will be given to developers. There isn’t one candidate that has or will say anything about fighting crime. They simply do not care.

  3. If we had a real candidate for mayor they would talk about crime and the community and what infrastructure needs that KC had. Instead, we've got a bunch of pretenders trying to play development games. It's a disgrace.

  4. No more taxes. if we have more police that just means more cost. Don't want to keep paying for an expensive city that keeps getting more dangerous.
