JEFFERSON CITY, MO (AP) -- Gov. Mike Parson says there will be no layoffs and no additional prisoner releases as part of a northwest Missouri prison consolidation. Parson plans to close Crossroads Correctional Center in Cameron, although on Friday he said he wants to keep it available in case it's later needed.

Newly elected Democratic Kansas Congresswoman Sharice Davids says her top priority is reopening the government. In a speech Friday at a Kansas City, Kansas, Chamber of Commerce forum, Davids called the partial government shutdown "completely unacceptable." She said she would push for back wages for furloughed government workers and low-wage contractors.

Amtrak modifies service because of winter storms

WASHINGTON (AP) - Amtrak is modifying service in the Northeast and Midwest because of winter storms moving through the region. The Capitol Limited, from Chicago to Washington, and the Lake Shoe Limited, from Chicago to New York, are canceled on Saturday. On Sunday, five Acela trains and six Northeast Regional trains will not operate between New York and Boston.
