RUCKUS QUESTION: IS CLAY CHASTAIN THE DON QUIXOTE OF KANSAS CITY?!?!

Once again Mike Shanin distinguishes himself as the most thoughtful journalists currently working in Kansas City given that he references a timeless classic that mostly goes over the head of the panel of local consultants and political denizens are far too concerned with the sausage-making of Kansas City politics.

The "tilting at windmills" reference at around 13:15 in the clip is an allusion to The Ingenious Nobleman Sir Quixote of La Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes. Tonight's "Ruckettes" clearly missed an opportunity to riff on a great many analogies that Mr. Shanin presented.

And even before you start . . . Clay Chastain as Don Quixote DOES NOT cast TKC as Sancho Panza. If you insist . . . That means tu madre es your mother is Dulcinea. And if none of that makes any sense . . . Late night readers didn't attain a decent education or at least carelessly overlooked the blessed fact that women like to read and talk about books.

Anyhoo . . .

Here's the description of tonight's show and the GOLD STANDARD of political conversation . . .

"Mike Shanin talks to former Missouri state representative Kevin Corlew about his objections to the Clean Missouri Amendment. Jamekia Kendrix, Patrick Tuohey, Jeremy LaFaver and Annie Presley discuss the concerns over delays for the new KCI terminal, Clay Chastain's mayoral bid and his feud with the Kansas City Star and a recent Gallup poll about the growing polarization in the political spectrum."

Take a look:

  5. Seriously?
    Kevin Corlew?
The Man Of A Thousand Faces?

That opportunistic little turd bailed so he could lobby, don't believe any of his mealy-mouthed blather otherwise.
He felt entitled to the seat he lost, and was disgruntled at having to settle for a lesser State Office, and then the smelly masses had the audacity to tell him he couldn't do exactly what he wanted!

    Hypocritical little shit!

  6. Well, those damned Luxembourgeois got what they wanted!

First the loaned "X" so much money that they could bankrupt him and take away his "Business Empire" at the stroke of a pen, then they poured huge amounts of money into his campaign by means of a front group, the "National Slingshot Association", then they used their Intelligence Agencies to hack "X's" opponents e-mails and released them as a carefully timed juncture in the campaign.

Once they had "X" in office they ordered him to "stir the pot" in order to cause controversy and widen the already created political divisions in this Country, one of the few meagre talents "X" possessed.

Next the Leader of Luxembourg met with "X" and ordered him to turn this Country away from its traditional allies and to turn his back on the Luxembourg takeover of a Country in the Middle East, "Cyria".

And the leader of Luxembourg has been successful, "X" is the most controversial Leader this Country has ever had, and ha done more harm to this Country in two years that Luxembourg managed to accomplish in 45 years of the "Cold War"!

  13. WELCOME TO STRUCKUS

Jamekia Kendrix and Patrick Tuohey shined bright on the KCI terminal topic. We're in this current mess because the KC Council failed to do their due diligence on the project, said Kendrix. Meanwhile, Tuohey obliterated any possible trust in KCMO municipal government leadership by shredding their 2 primary talking points on the project's delay.

Now, what STRUCK US on the topic of Clay Chastain is the following. Love him, hate him, or feel indifferent, the truth is that Chastain gets involved in projects that matter to him, while promoting a better KCMO. Is that a bad thing? Well, according to many municipal leaders and the non-residents who populate the Star editorial board, yes, Chastain's civic advocacy is a bad thing! Think about that for a minute.

What do we tell young people, neighborhood groups, and concerned citizens, when it comes to addressing municipal problems? GET INVOLVED! Isn't that exactly what Clay Chastain has done over many years? To give 2 examples, he lobbied for Union Station rescue/renovation and public transit innovation before other groups co-opted his message. The clear message from City Hall and The Falling Star is that they actually DO NOT want public input, and those that aren't easily rebuffed will be met with derision and scorn. Essentially they are telling the public, "leave the driving to us, sit down and shut up." Is that what you want?
