NORTHEAST NEWS: KANSAS CITY VOTERS REJECT MLK RENAME ON THE PASEO!!!

As a holiday approaches, this bit of community news seems relevant for a community still debating a civil rights legacy.

In their latest issue, the Northeast News argues against the proposed MLK rename in this editorial: No Means No

And so, here's their strongest point as it relates to voters and elected officials . .

"Here’s a heads up for the backers of this pandering piece of municipal legislation, as has been noted so many times before, the voters, those are the people who elected you by the way, are overwhelmingly opposed to this measure. Our own Northeast News poll last week showed a 93% opposition and a scant 7% approval for the measure.

"Similar numbers were brought forward by the Mayor and Councilwomen Hall and Canaday, as you might recall, who recorded 80-85% opposition in constituent conversations they had been involved with. The mayoral candidates pushing this against the public’s will might want to remember that there’s an election in a little over 90 days. Might not be the smartest thing to foist this on an un-wanting public given the backlash potential."

And so we ask . . .

DO YOU AGREE WITH NORTHEAST NEWS?!?!? NOW, AT LONG LAST AND AMID HIS NATIONAL HOLIDAY, SHOULD KCMO RENAME THE PASEO IN HONOR OF MLK?!?!

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. Absolutely yes. KC needs to resolve this issue and move on. We've got more important problems like the airport to deal with.

  2. What a load of crap

  3. KCMO city hall is the only place where "no" does not mean "no". For the past year the lame stream media and all of the SJW marches claim no means no. Too bad the city does not understand this.
There are more pressing needs that the royalties to the King family can be used for like failing infrastructure. Broken 20" water main on 75th street for example.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Name one of the east side’s police stations after him. I’m sure crime would plummet.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Isnt this city council dude Quinton Lucas's big issue? Stop trying to mess with local historic streets and start focusing on CRIME on Paseo. Good grief man cant anyone on city council have an open and honest discussion about crime in KC?

Do we just have to take it up the butt and accept it as "thats just a part of living in the city"?

  6. Trigger warning! Trigger warning!!! Oh God, here we go!!!!!!

  7. 9:42 has been triggered! Oh god, here we go...... again

  8. The citizens voted 60-40 against streetcar expansion. No means no only when those in the know agree.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Can Lucas or anyone or will anyone tell us how much we’re paying them already for the use of his name on the park and the school off of blue parkway? Bet that never gets answered

  10. The city, after pandering to well to do politically connected whites (thanks Sly appreciate it good job) the past 8 years is attempting to placate an angry black populace before the shit explodes and really hits the fan.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Can't the poor blacks and whites be put on a reservation somewhere? Plenty of undeveloped land outside the KCMO city limits.

    ReplyDelete
  12. They should never poll the kolored peoples for anything that cost the taxpayers money, they get free gubmint money and don’t pay taxes so their vote shouldn’t count and I kinda like the idea of putting the worthless poor peeps out of killa shitty, all they do is whine and moan and suck up valuable money that the rich developers need. Besides, all those people are murderous filthy nasty disease ridden pieces of crap. GET THEM OUT OF MY CITY NOW!

  13. No matter what your opinion of Martin Luther King is, there is no doubt, that all over the United States, streets named after him, are rife with violent crime.

The association of decades of violent crime on streets named after Martin Luther King, will automatically affect property values and attitudes. It just is what the fuck it is. It may not be fair, it may not make you happy, but if you own a business or a home on a street that has the name changed to Martin Luther King Drive, you just got fucked.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I guess City Hall's logic is Martin Luther King Drive would attract well to do blacks making six figures driving BMW's.

  15. How bout The Great and Frosty Sly James Boulevard.

    ReplyDelete
  16. How bout we name a pothole ridden street at the airport after bow tie the clown sLIE! Or an old dirt road that goes around the perimeter of the airport. I’d be fine with that

  18. I know that the holiday was put in January to coincide with MLK,Jr's Birthday. I find it ironic and racist that the KC Star prints a 23 page biography of Dr. King while NEVER doing this to honor George Washington, Abraham Lincoln or any of our founding fathers or national heroes. Also why is the holiday in January rather than February for Black History Month? Seems racist and odd to me that we ponder whether or not to rename a boulevard after MLK,Jr when we already have a school named for him. Why is this so important to have this much sensationalism about a man who while I think he did good for his race is disrespected by the same people he tried to raise up? Black on Black crime is highest among racial groups. Black illiteracy is high among all groups. Blacks in prison are high among groups. Black unwed births, black arrests, black robbers, black muggers and on and on, you get the picture.
"I hope for the day that my children will be judged not on the color of their skin but on the content of their character" (MLK, jr).
    I think we are there!

  19. Quinton Lucas will drive this issue into the ditch, like a drunk falling asleep at the wheel!

  20. Enough about this already. People hate the idea so forget about it.

  21. Where do I get my Clay Chastain yard sign?

    ReplyDelete
  22. 11:34: You can assume that 50 years after Washington died (and there were still people alive when he died), there was still a lot being published about him. As for Lincoln, who had the added advantage of having been assassinated, there was still a lot being published about him (and many films made as well, including "Birth of a Nation) many years after he died. As time goes by, fewer people who were alive when those being honored are around, and things (pardon the pun) die down.

If you're one of the few still taking the Star, ignore the insert if you don't like it. There are obviously a lot of people who will read it whether you do or not.

  24. I'm curious as to why the city needs to rename the road anyway. Frankly, I'm tired of all the hype around the racial divide nonsense. Furthermore, why would the city even consider paying the family of a dead guy for the use of a name. Hardly the best use of TAX PAYER funds.

    ReplyDelete
  25. To @ 12:46 - I am saying why do they do this every year? The hype over a Monday holiday, OK, publish 23 pages for Memorial Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day then. The fact is there is NO EXCUSE for this excess of noise in a community that obviously does not live by the preaching and standards of Dr. King Jr. He is a black hero but then they show a lack of respect for him with illiteracy, criminality, Dysfunctional families etc.
There is a Black problem in society and they need to publish 23 pages about that. Not that they would read it.
PS: I don't take the Star but can see it on line.

  34. We have high water bills and lots of violent crime but the mayor and city council are focusing on street names.

  35. High water bills because Burns and Mac have taken over the water department. They get their kickback with or without the proposed airport.

  36. HERE'S AN IDEA!
Let's just change his name, to REVEREND PASEO LUTHER KING JR.
Won't that solve all of this City's problems?

    ReplyDelete
  37. The Minusters from the east side of town got the council all riled up about this. How would you like to own a property on the Paseo and have your street renamed MLK? Financial disaster. Could you sue the Council for damages???

  38. The City drops $600k per year to keep the Blue Room in operation on 18th and Vine. This is one of a thousand examples of this City’s mismanagement of tax dollars.
I will contribute and vote for Clay.

  39. MLK. You would think they would move on to something more productive.
How about a city funded grocery store in the 5th district?
Or maybe another street car extension east?
Or maybe another $10 million for 18th and Vine?

  41. Let’s pass a new law. from this date forward, No public street in KCMO shall be named after any person for any reason. Problem solved.

  42. @343 You are one dumb mother fucker!

    ReplyDelete
  43. If your city has gotten to the point where it even considers naming its streets after a black "Civil Rights leader", then something has gone terribly wrong.

There is a reason why every street named after Martin Luther King has fallen into disrepair and decay - black people and the ideology that worships minority victim status - as well as the business practices that come with such entitlement mentalities.

Business people know that any city with an ascendant minority population is trouble and not a destination for up-and-coming business people. Granted, you will get some businessmen who think they can turn a profit, but you won't get the cream of the crop. Instead, you'll get scammers and minority businessmen who think they'll just take advantage of the welfare residents, slum lords, dollar stores, etc...

....the very fact that this was even SUGGESTED is a big banner-advertisement to good businessmen (the people who believe in mutual benefit and long-term community building to foster long-term business) that your community is "undersirable".

So you don't want good businessmen?

    Fine.

You will not attract ANYONE of any talent, value or even moderate intelligence now that this has been advertised. Doctors now know that businessmen will look elsewhere, and those doctors will not want to serve patients who (A) have bad business practices and (B) will sue them for frivolous and inconsiderate reasons without regard to long-term relationships. Engineers and their firms now know your community is compromised. Services, construction, maintenance, builders? They'll all know your city isn't where they want to base operations. SUre, they'd be willing to contract short-term, but their hours and asking price is going to be significantly higher - probably to the point where you can't afford them.

On and on it will go...you screwed yourselves, and will become just another Ferguson or Dearborn, taken over by minorities, leading to an endless cycle of having minorities determine your policy, thereby attracting more minorities, thereby becoming an even worse place to do business and becoming poorer, thereby having minorities determine more and more policies while your white population dwindles to levels of - well - Ferguson and Dearborn.

About the only attraction this news has is to scoundrels or businessmen looking for a quick buck (many of them minorities)....that's not good for you, but you don't deserve much better.

"MLK" was just a glorified race hustler, the "good cop" of black criminality and terrorism of his age, much as Arafat and CAIR were the velvet gloves of Muslim criminality and terrorists. MLK once demanded $500 billion dollars to be diverted from government programs, eventually called "Welfare", which is one of the reasons why the Space program and Military budget shrank, while Welfare is now the biggest government expenditure today....so instead of paying for military and scientific advancements and technology (which eventually make it to our consumer products and daily lives), we're paying people to not work and feeding those who aren't productive.

Otherwise, American cities burned - Detroit is one of the most dramatic examples, but there are literally dozens of others...Baltimore, Birmingham, Oakland, Flint, Newark, the list is long and sad.

Once great cities of extreme wealth and power and prestige, brought to their knees of ruin by minorities.

And if that's what you are and respect - and that's what you advertise to the world - we the good businessmen who make America great will take our money, our friends, our families, our "talent" elsewhere where they are appreciated.
