Mayoral candidates asked whether or not they're pro-choice

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Candidates faced an unusual question for a mayoral race during a forum hosted by the Heartland Alliance for Progress on Monday night. A moderator from the group, which focuses on equal rights for women, asked candidates a yes or no question: are you pro-choice?

  2. Yeah, looking at our mayoral candidates make me pro abortion.

  3. Cute little babies with tiny little fingers and toes, eyes and smiles are crushed to death and sucked out with a vacuum cleaner and that's what most of our mayoral candidates support.

  4. ^^..and what are you prepared to do about it? Nothing? Thought so.

  5. Yep, that's what I think when I look out at the world...if definitely needs more human beings.

  6. A Mayor would have no power or influence to promote pro choice or pro life. So the question is really a religion test. Not that many years ago, the qualifying question woould have been do you go to a protestant church every Sunday. Now the religion is do you believe that women have an unfettered right to kill their babies at any time before birth. If not, you are not religious enough to be Mayor.

  7. It matters not because there is only one abortion clinic in the state of Missouri and it is on forest park drive in St. Louis.

  8. Of course you have to be pro choice, today's society wants to support murder, and make people like me pay for it. Oh and it's not a women's choice. Is it a choice for your mother or father to kill YOU? NO! That baby is not part of the women's body it's a separate human inside her, and no one has the right to kill it!

  9. ^^^ Yes, but the Anti-Choice crowd will never let FACTS get in their way!
They prefer mythology, like the existence of "Third Trimester Abortions" and "Fetal Heartbeats".

  10. Just one "activist" in a very long line of special interest narrowly focused organizations who insist on seeing the whole world through the eyes of their singular issues.
How about people at EVERY forum asking mayoral candidates how they plan to focus on issues like homicides, street maintenance, planning and zoning, giveaways to developers, and all the other concerns that people who actually live in KCMO care about?
The candidates are running for a MUNICIPAL job.
At least that's what residents need to hope!

  12. ^^that's the hypocrisy of the right and Evangelicals. They vociferously oppose abortion, but end up hating the child born into poverty.

  13. Local Mayors have no control over abortion so anyone asking their view on it is a moron who is fucking up the forum. Why forums are a joke.

  14. Jermaine Reed... I call on you to resign from office and cancel your Mayoral campaign. Your incompetence has created a huge problem for the Council. It would be hard to believe that KC voters will support you in future elections.

  19. OK, here's the deal: The issue is NOT whether women shall have abortions. Women have had abortions since pre-historic times. Your grandmother's friends (and perhaps your grandmother) had abortions. The only issue is whether it will be legal so it can be safe. Not only did women DIE when abortions were illegal, but they often ended up unable to later have children. (Remember that childless old aunt?)

99+% of abortions are first or early second trimester, involving a fetus that is fingernail-sized. A human being in the same sense that an acorn is an oak tree. All this crap about "killing babies" is absurd political rhetoric.

Remember, no pro-choice person wants to compel ANYONE to have an abortion. On the other hand, an awful lot of anti-abortion folks seem to think that life begins at conception and that society's responsibility to protect it ends at birth.

  20. Jermaine "MLK" Reed said "hell yes" to the question. What a sick piece.

  21. ^^^If mid and late term abortions are so rare, there should be no objection to prohibiting them except in cases of empirically determined and verifiable serious harm to the mother's physical health. Twenty weeks would be a reasonable compromise number. Surely the pro abortion crowd will accept that limitation, won't they?

  22. Phil, it’s a well thought out post. I think (hope?!) you’d agree that an abortion is a pretty bad thing we should try to make as rare as possible. I mean it is not a virtuous act to snuff out a fetus is it? It’s a tragedy. Let’s make condoms available and try to prevent abortion. I know the catholic faith has a deep seated objection to contraception which I don’t challenge, I’m sure in theology they are right. But in a comparison of sins, the sin of extra-marital sex + contraception is a lot better than the sin of an abortion or even of having an unwanted child who the mom can’t really support or raise up right.

    Thanks,
    Radish
