Late last year the toy train hope for cash from the feds was SHUT DOWN but that hasn't stopped their scheming . . .
KC Streetcar Authority releases photos of proposed streetcar expansion along river front
The pix are nice even if they don't take into account all of the hobo foot traffic in that part of town.
Nevertheless . . .
This desperate push not only forgets FED FUNDING FAIL but also ignores transit trends which now favor scooters, electric transports and ride sharing.
You decide . . .
If it's so important and essential why aren't developers forking out for it or banks loaning money for it?
ReplyDeleteIt should be ran up the middle of I29 to the remodeled KCI over the new Broadway Bridge.
ReplyDeleteStreetcar expansion is dead but no one will acknowledge it due to denial. What's being overlooked is UMKC killed it by refusing to go downtown because...well, they don't have a reason. They're only good school (Dental) is already downtown so they're not afraid of splitting the campus.
ReplyDeleteThe Streetcar to the plaza could have been sold as a necessity to help UMKC students but now there's no real argument to expand except "cool factor", which has died out. UMKC is silently killing this city in a similar way that Cleaver did. No one talks about it
As surely as Tony Botello enjoys talking about Caleb Schwab having his head cut off, the streetcar expansion is inevitable, whether one likes it or not. Keep telling yourself otherwise.
ReplyDeleteBasically buses without wheels attached to overhead electrical.
ReplyDeleteRidiculous considering the cost and hardly futuristic. Or propelling Kansas City into the future at 7 mph.
I thought it would be cool to roll my bike onto the streetcar....until i realized i can ride the bike faster than the streetcar.
ReplyDeleteSeems like it’d be easy enough to provide a transit connection to those new apartment buildings near Berkeley riverfront Park. Main Street max and 85paseo or the 77 or 110 woodland all stop at or near 3rd & grand and any one of them could extend to that area. Or a new route or some tweaks to the 11 (the old 30 northeast bus which is now trying to do too much in my opinion going from Ku med all the way to that community college off front street)
ReplyDeleteBut these are transit related thoughts and the one thing the toy train definitely is not is transit.
Thanks,
Radish
@ 11:38 - you’d think for $102 million the toy train would at least have a bike rack wouldn’t you? Like on the front of a bus. It is embarrassing that our civic and economic development leaders actually promote the sad slow li’l streetcar route as if it is anything at all.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Radish
^^No, what's sad is that you think jumping on a blog for dying geriatrics and talking about the street car all day will ever change anybody's mind. Dumbass!
ReplyDeletei saw a news segment this am with all homeless ride away around 6 am asleep on the streetcar this am. Just what we need more.
ReplyDeleteHow about Streetcars without rails, brought to you by the best tech companies on the planet for a fraction of the price?
ReplyDelete12:28 is Gopher, folks. The non sequiturs, the ad hominem attacks, and the reductio ad absurdum arguments have outed him.
ReplyDelete^^^2:59 is nobody. Nothing he ever posts is anything.
ReplyDelete^^^ butthurt copro boi
ReplyDeleteTOP PHOTO -- A BRIDGE TOO FAR
ReplyDeleteStreetcar Authority reaches for the 3rd rail in shocking development!!!
That riverfront streetcar notion is lipstick on a pig. Some folks need to change out besides just mayor and council
ReplyDelete4:23: So is copro boi Gopher?
ReplyDeleteJust so the soon to be union apartments that will be dense.... No that is a smelly area that the sketchy Port authority took 7 years to build. SWAMP LAND
