KANSAS CITY HOSPITAL BLAMES INTERNETS PR0N FOR INCREASING LOCAL SEX ASSAULT AMONG YOUNGSTERS!!!

Today the news reported a sketchy premise without any critical questions or challenge to a narrative based on bad science.

While it's admirable that a hospital wants locals to keep track of youngsters and monitor their online viewing, the idea that online pr0n incites violence has been completely debunked by one study after the next. Data from other countries where online pr0n is even more prevalent and/or recently legalized also disputes this assertion. Here's a very basic challenge to the "causation" premise with more info and study in the link . . .

Psych Today: "If the anti-porn activists are correct, if porn actually contributes to rape, then starting around 1999 as the Internet made it much more easily available, the rate of sexual assault should have increased. So what happened? According to the Justice Department’s authoritative National Crime Victimization Survey, since 1995, the U.S. sexual assault rate has FALLEN 44 percent."

Now the emotional plea that provides good advice but doesn't offer any academic peer-reviewed work to support an unsubstantiated premise:

Hospital: Pornography may to be blame for increase in child sexual assaults

Experts at Children's Mercy Hospital say pornography may be to blame for a disturbing increase in child sexual assaults.

  1. Modern Journalism 101: find someone with credentials who will say what you want them to say, label that person an expert and go to print (or broadcast). Be sure to not do any independent research or to ask others with similar or better credentials, or else the story might go away.

  2. I looked at porn as a kid and I never attacked anyone that wasn't begging for it.

  3. ^^^ Scary.

Most men and women look at porn, this is just the news and the hospital playing thought police.

  5. most porn viewers are horrible lovers. They have no imagination and simply run through the motions instead of making a real connection with a woman. Turn off the videos and maybe read a book. It'll make you a more interesting person at the very least.

  6. ^^^ Bender, I'm sorry that every lover you've ever found was "bad", and couldn't "make a connection" with you.

But remember, if "every College Roommate you've ever had was a bad roommate, you're the bad roommate"!
