While many taxpayers may not feel this is a great loss, they'll still have to pay their taxes - and it's created a good deal of uncertainty for everyone planning to file their tax returns in the coming months.

Kansas Rep. Watkins not accepting salary during shutdown

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Kansas Rep. Steve Watkins is not accepting his congressional salary until the federal government fully reopens. Watkins spokesman Jim Joice said Monday that the freshman Republican congressman began refusing his salary when he was sworn into office last week. Watkins and most members of Congress are paid $174,000 a year.

High Stakes Game

The effects of the shutdown are only going to get exponentially worse as the fight drags on

The government shutdown is now in day 17 and shows no sign of ending. The shutdown is already having an effect on government agencies, including closures and delays. But as the shutdown drags on, the effects will only get worse.

As Government Shutdown Continues, Kansas Republicans Blame Democrats

On what threatens to become the longest government shutdown in history, Kansas Republican representatives tend to agree - Democrats are to blame. It's the third week of the shutdown, which came after Democrats and Republicans in the Senate failed to reach an agreement on a spending bill that would allocate $5 billion for a border wall.

  1. I support the President on the border wall and most of his policies. But I don't think he is going to win this debate. Eventually, they'll have to open it back up.

  4. Well, today his Highness tweeted that the only people opposed to the American taxpayers paying as much as it cost to build the Wall were "drug smugglers, human traffickers and other criminals"!

Guess that makes me an "other criminal" since I don't even drink anymore and don't like people enough to sell them. I'm no expert or engineer, but I'd be willing to bet that I could come up with at least a dozen ways to defeat any "Wall" that gets built within a week of laying my eyes on it for the first time.

I think the idea of "the Wall" is the Kansas City Streetcar on steroids, just a glitzy gimmick to keep attention focused while the real skullduggery carries on unnoticed.

Still, he'll have to put up something, if he wants to go down in History as a President more significsnt that Chester Allen Arthur.

  5. When President Trump wins, we all win.

When the dems win, only they win, the taxpayers get fucked.

Sorry folks, but that’s the way it is.

  6. It's funny how Schumer and Pelosi gave 20 mil to secure foreign countries, and they cried for a boarder wall here years ago but when Trump wants a wall they turn the opposite way now only because it's Trump who wants it. This shutdown is brought to you by the Democrats!!!!! I stand with Trump and hope he doesn't give in to these thugs who are so extremely jealous of him they will put all of us at risk and without paychecks. Thankfully I have enough money in savings to go for awhile without a paycheck, and will file for unemployment if I have to.

  10. President Trump addresses the nation Tuesday night (8PM Central) concerning border security.

Summary: The American people elected me with a mandate to address illegal immigration, drug smuggling, and gang violence issues directly related to our southern border. The Democratic Party leadership has refused to cooperate in addressing these vital national security issues, and seems intent on obstructing all attempts to keep our nation protected and safe.

This cannot stand, and I will not allow the American public to remain in harm's way because the Democratic Party leadership refuses to do their duty. Therefore, effective immediately, I am invoking my right as your President and Commander-in-Chief to act unilaterally in declaring this a national emergency matter to protect our nation. God Bless the United States of America!

House Speaker Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Schumer will fold under intense pressure, as opinion polls show a majority of Americans blame the Democrats as do-nothing obstructionists, still smarting from Hillary Clinton's loss in 2016.

  12. Hate to break it to you, but there will never be a big beautiful wall. Mexico won't pay for it. $5.6 billion of US tax money wouldn't begin to cover this stupid project.

You're learning what most of us knew already. Trump lies to everyone. His wall promise was just another conjob. He doesn't just try to own the libs. He trolls his own base. He only cares about himself.

If he was serious, he would have started it on day 1. If this was a real emergency, it should have been declared months ago. He deployed troops for this fake crises and they missed the holidays with their families for nothing. There was/is no emergency.

It's time to realize nothing is going happen with this wall nonsense. He's not even deporting people now because the judges are furloughed and courts are shutdown. Congrats on that.

Sorry about your disappointment. Next time pick a leader that has some principles, some knowledge, and isn't batshit crazy. Maybe he'll accomplish something for you.

  13. 8:57 who had the largest tax increase in Kansas State history? Why that would be Republican Sam Brownback a couple of years ago. Know how many times St. Ronald Reagan raised taxes? Ten times. Yes, 10 times. He also raised the debt ceiling 17 times. You rubes need to realize you are in a cult. There is no difference between you and Scientologists. That wall will NEVER get built. Why didn't they fund it when Pubs controlled both houses the last two years? This is nothing but another diversionary tactic to distract you from the important stuff. Seventy five percent of illegals are here from overstaying their visas, how does a wall stop that? Tonight you idiots will watch his moronic speech in which every word will be a lie and you will believe every word of it. Not one of you will fact check a single thing your messiah says because face it, you are in a cult and even more so, none of you read anything other than internet memes on Facebook. There are no "winners" in this, only losers. This isn't a game, this is peoples lives. If only we weren't being ruled by the dullard minority whose ruler can be goaded into a shutdown by fucking Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh. Get professional help, you need it.

  15. Another minor point is that THE WALL ALREADY EXISTS!

Of the 1,933 miles of the U.S.-Mexican Border, 654 miles (34%) are the most feasible areas for crossing the Border, and are already walled (or fenced) EXACTLY in the manner President Trump proposes.

Incidentally , none of that security has been installed since January, 2017, and $1.3 Billion of the funds allocated for "Border Security" in the last two US Budget years remains unspent.

Of the remaining 1,279 miles of the Border, approximately 830 miles consist of either portions of Rivers considered too deep to ford or Mountainous areas considered impractical to cross. Those areas are continuously monitored by drone coverage or electronic surveillance, as they were prior to 2017. They would also be impossible to be "walled".

The roughly 450 remaining miles of the Border are privately owned. Currently they are continuously monitored electronically and by drones as mentioned above, and have been since prior to 2017.

The vast majority of these landowners have permitted the US Government to install and maintain fencing in addition to this surveillance, but are adamantly opposed to the seizure of their land by means of "eminent domain" that construction of the proposed Wall would entail. Republican Representative Will Hurd, whose District includes almost all of this land, has been their spokesman in Washington, and said on the floor of the House of Representatives last year "I've made it clear, time and time again, that building a physical wall from sea to shining sea is the most expensive and least effective way to secure the Border."

So, since President Trump has, possibly due to his misunderstanding of the actual situations along the Border, repeatedly misstated the facts, it becomes easier to understand why there are questions in the minds of the 54% of the American People who oppose the idea of funding the proposed Wall.

The proponents of this "Wall" appear to be either misinformed, misstating the facts, or outright lying to the American Public.

  16. One more thing - I realize that no "True Republican" would ever believe the facts I've outlined above, so I challenge you to disprove them.

Disprove them specifically, and not with some blanket "no they're not" third-grade denial, and not with any ridiculous "ad hominem" attack against me personally (which I'll only find amusing anyway).

  17. It's sooooo fucking easy to get rubes to rally behind something sooooo fucking stupid. First argument: Terrorists are coming through our Southern Border (SHS stated 4000) - Fact - there were 6 suspected terrorists (key word here suspected) caught and detained last year.
Second - Drugs are pouring in. Fact - The vast majority come right through the checkpoint.
Third - Undocumented crossings are at an all time high as migrants storm our border. Fact - Crossings are at a 20 year low.

Here's a fact, this is a bullshit made up crisis to whip a bunch of brown hating people into a frenzy and now the networks are going to give our dipshit in chief time on their networks this evening to lie and mislead for 30 minutes to an hour. What a fucking joke.

  18. Man, this fucking guy had two of total Republican control to ask for his funds, yet now he asks for it?

Hard pass on this bullshit national address tonight. Probably 95% of will be made up garbage.
