ECONOMIC BORDER WAR IN REVERSE: TOPEKA TAX FIGHT COULD BRING EPIC DRAG RACING BACK TO KANSAS CITY!!!

A longstanding yet fierce tax dispute in the heart of the Sunflower State could bring a much needed alternative sports venue to this cowtown. The owner is grousing over $344K owed in property taxes and recently issued a relocation threat to officials in Shawnee County.

Don't sleep on this one cause it's actually a big deal . . . There was a promise to re-open I-70 Speedway last year but there hasn't been much progress on that front. Track owner Chris Payne might see the venue as the perfect fit which would be a great opportunity for KC to STEAL an attraction with a decent fan base from Kansas. Checkit:

Kansas' Heartland Motorsports Park is back in the news after track owner Chris Payne issued public remarks this week regarding the future of his facility pending tax-related negotiations with local county officials.

  8. Is there not already a lot of earthwork going on at the I-70 speedway location? My understanding is Jackson Co has not officially issued any permits for construction, just State permits for Land Disturbance. He might be using that to pressure KS pols (good luck with that, few things pols like more than tax money) but I'm pretty sure he is intending to open sometime early summer 2019

  9. The problem they have in Topeka and Shawnee County is that so much property is tax exempt — all the state, all the federal, all the churches, all the nonprofits. Those were the words used by a county commissioner in that neck of the woods. Look at the Kansas City area where hundreds of thousands of people pay higher tax rates due to all the freeloaders here who don't pay a dime in taxes. If your name is on a property tax list as the owner of said ground you will pay a property tax same as blue collar worker John Doe over in the residential districts. The hard working class people shouldn't be taxed with making up the slack for the ones who think their whatever shouldn't have to pay taxes. Taxes are taxes and all should be equal on who has to pay them.

I'm sure Chris Payne wants a sweeter tax deal to maybe move this to Kansas City and being a huge racing fan I would like to see it here instead of over in Topeka but not if Payne thinks it shouldn't have to pay its fair share of taxes. I don't get to excited about paying my taxes but I get plum excited when I see those getting a free ride who tax the public services a hundred fold over what I could never dream about doing while not forking over one copper colored penny to support such.

Everyone is all about equal this and that now days so it's time equal paying of taxes on property values is a done deal around here. If a church wants a 10 million dollar place to worship in then they best be ready to fork over taxes that covers a 10 million dollar building every year. One only needs a basic understanding of the Bible to know that God and Jesus thought that standing out in the middle of some sand and rocks was a good enough spot to honor them from and much cheaper to support.

Well by golly, just move to KC and mayor bowtie will make sure you get TIF monies and other perks, especially if you hire his favorite developers and contractors to do the work. He needs to check with Cordish to find out just how to deal with 12th and Oak.
