TKC SUNDAY SPECIAL!!! SHOOTING REPORTS RAMP UP AMID HOLIDAY SEASON AS KANSAS CITY CONFRONTS DEADLY CHRISTMASTIME GUNFIRE SURGE!!!

A drop in Kansas City homicides has some politicos talking about 2018 progress against crime but the reality is that local violence continues to trend upward when we look at the big picture.

Right now KCMO counts 119 homicides vs. 135 at this time last year. While the lower number is welcomed, let's not forget that 2017 was one of the most violent years this town has seen throughout its entire history.

And one AWESOME TKC READER reminds us that KCMO is consistently ranked as one of the most dangerous in the nation.

A somewhat recent CBS list ranked KC as the 6th most violent place in the nation.

But it gets worse . . .

ALREADY THIS HOLIDAY SEASON, KANSAS CITY INSIDERS REPORT AN INCREASING IN KANSAS CITY SHOOTINGS AND REPORTS OF GUNFIRE RINGING OUT IN NEIGHBORHOODS!!!

The word . . .

"Of course fewer murders is always the most important goal but the constant gunfire in some neighborhoods is becoming an issue. Again, Hyde Park & Southmoreland seem to be the hardest hit but you know there's a problem when we're getting constant calls to Brookside about random gunfire. That's not necessarily a hot spot for criminal activity but complaints about gunfire are on the rise. The only bright side is at least people are calling the police."

Of course more shooting eventually leads to more killing and there's a not-so-fun fact that deserves mention . . .

DECEMBER IS TYPICALLY ONE OF THE MORE DEADLY MONTHS IN KANSAS CITY AS HOLIDAY SEASON PRESSURE OFTEN SPARKS INCREASED VIOLENCE!!!

And so, KCMO struggles to retain so-called progress against homicides whilst the sound of gunfire on local streets resonates much louder than holiday tidings.

  1. What about shot spotter? I thought that new toy was going to stop all of the random shootings. I thought that was the promise. I guess the only answer is more surveillance and even more technology to spy on the local population.

  3. "holiday season pressure"

What kind of bullshit excuse is this for shooting people?

    ( "I can't afford that". "Think I'll go shoot somebody". )

  4. Good point @10:27 but what do we know about violence in KC?

You don't really need an excuse to kill somebody.

  5. You people talk as if this is a uniquely Kansas City problem and it isn’t.
St. Joseph is now the auto theft capital of MO. Columbia has a crime problem in certain areas.
Springfield ditto. And we all know about St. Louis.

    It’s a national societal epidemic.
Too many people with no conscience, morals or fear of consequences.
A total lack of respect for the sanctity of human life, morality and the law.
That’s what it comes down to.

I’m not making excuses for KC’s homicide problem, however.

Like a lot of other areas, as I tell people about KC:
“Nothing wrong here that you won’t see anywhere else.”

  6. Nope, blacks don’t need an excuse to murder their own and especially hate crimes against whitey, they know petersucker, mayor and news media turn a blind eye towards these heinous crimes. They do it because there’s no penalty against them, now if your white that’s a different story.

  7. First 10:59 that’s your whole problem right there, you’ve accepted it, well, the rest of us haven’t so.......

  8. The more hood rats kill each other, the better it is. That is the only thing that gets hood rats off the street. The courts aren’t doing it. Jean Petersucker Baker isn’t doing it. The problem is, we have an endless supply of hood rats.

  9. Understandable for Hyde Park that's kansas city's ghetto always has been. But brookside that's bad. I've heard shootings over here about eight pops coming from brookside blvd.

  10. We need two things: a law allowing use of deadly force to protect personal property; and, armed citizens prepared to act.

  11. I wonder if the downtown train could help? Maybe extend the line another $1,000,000,000 and offer hope to the hopeless?

    Or, no.

  26. Less crime is better, I think the KCPD is doing a better job under the new Chief. But they need more help form the community. Hope we can keep the cooperation going.
