TKC QUESTION: CAN YOU SHOOT A CARJACKER IN KANSAS CITY?!?

Tonight we take up the issue of public safety and the local discourse as MSM typically frowns upon the practical application of gun rights.

To wit . . .

IN KANSAS CITY, CAN YOU SHOOT A CARJACKER & CLAIM SELF-DEFENSE?!?

TKC readers point out that in Overland Park, police shot and killed an unarmed teen because he was behind the wheel and the car was moving toward authorities. That shooting is being contested in a wrongful death lawsuit but local media are generally supportive of the arguement that police were confronted by a threat from the vehicle which was being used as a weapon.

In a recent case involving a Southland murder there are two schools of thought . . .

Dead-Tree Media has already pronounced the defendant guilty . . .

Kansas City Star: Shooting a fleeing car thief isn’t ‘standing your ground’

Meanwhile, Fox4 did just a bit of journalism and asked a local expert who said it all comes down to self-defense. "If he had gone out and tried to stop him and he tried to run over him, then his life is in danger and he can defend his life."

At the scene KCTV5 reports that surveillance video shows the suspect shot the victim as he attempted to enter the vehicle . . . Which may or may not be regarded as reaching for a potentially deadly weapon.

Police are still looking for additional witnesses.

And so, yet again, we put it to our readers . . .

IS SHOOTING A CARJACKER SELF-DEFENSE OR MURDER IN KCMO?!?

The answer has implications for the rising tide of local car crime and expanded concealed carry gun rights in Kansas City.

You decide . . .

  1. This isn't the wild west. He should not have shot the man, you don't kill people over property, his life was not in danger.

    1. Unlike TKC or any of his d-bag readers, I've seen the tape. It's inconclusive at best. I don't support leaving your keys in the car like some moron but he was well within his rights to shoot the guy because he could've been run over. Don't think he should have been charged to begin with.

  2. I’m glad he shot the carjacker. Carjackers in the shithole ghetto need to be shot and killed.

  3. Support CCW, support the law and not a felon stealing more property and probably going to commit even more crime. This wasn't stand your ground, it was a fight for survival. As usual, liberals want to leave citizens defenseless.

  4. I thought we didn’t prosecute murder in Jackson County any more. It’s too much work for our helpless prosecutor. She doesn’t have the ability or the desire to put people in prison.

  6. I believe the actual law is “to protect life and property” the libs want to take that away from you.

  8. Really sad that people are standing up for some guy hanging around a gas station late at night looking to rip people off. The police charged the guy with murder and that's fine but I think the prosecutor should see that there is no real danger posed here and the public is probably safe with a guy who is willing to protect himself. I don't advocate for vigilante justice but we're not talking about a personal grudge. From the what the news and TKC has reported, it looks like the man was trying to stand his ground. Either the law is applicable for all of us or none of us. That's the real issue.

  10. Making good people helpless
Does not make bad people harmless.

Good people need to be defended and supported.

  12. Had this been a white male shootong a black man in the same situation the narrative would be quite different. Charges always go away when police get creative with words in their report.

  13. Yes Virginia, a motor vehicle is a deadly weapon. Far deadlier than any firearm and kills more people every year than guns do.

A bad guy attempting to access a car is no more different than a bad guy reaching for a handgun, shotgun or rifle. Good shoot.

  14. The law should allow use of deadly force to protect property as well as life. Stealing a poor person's car often has an extremely adverse effect on that person's well being and that of his family.
