TKC LATE NIGHT DEBATE: ARE MORE THAN A DOZEN KANSAS CITY MAYORAL CANDIDATES TOO MANY?!?!?

The nice late, late fall weather has as least three more candidates out on the street getting signatures this evening.

Pictured in the lead photo for this post, so far at least 10 candidates have publicly declared their intentions to run.

One of the smartest people we talked to on this topic tells us:

"With a dozen candidates, anybody can win. In Kansas City, the best do not rise to the top in that kind of crowded field."

Don't forget that the filing deadline is not until January 8th.

And so, for our late night denizens and those who haven't seen it yet, we share this mini-movie on everybody running for Mayor so far . . .

Description:

"Before an audience of about 150 people in the East High School auditorium, students and mayoral hopefuls took part in a nearly two-hour question-and-answer session."

Take a look:

  1. The more the merrier, the margin for victory is so low that even Clay Chastain has another good shot.

    Watch it all burn.

    1. ^^ Far too anti-social. So far we haven't really had a debate. THAT is what needs to happen. What we've seen are nothing but forums where every candidate just gets a turn on the soap box. A debate would be far more productive because it let's the candidates challenge one another with their ideas rather than just playing to the mob.

KC mayor's once had debates, it is a tradition we need to bring back again.

  2. The problem is they all suck. Except for Jolie, she licks. None of them are worth a fuck, and most of them are liars and thieves.

  3. Wagner, Taylor, Canady and Reed should do everyone a favor and drop out.

  4. What about Quinton Lucas, the drunk with the DUI arrest hanging over his head? He needs to drop out along with Reed and Canady, the fat obese slob who doesn’t think vehicle registration laws apply to her.

  6. We need a primary before the primary. This is ridiculous all these people are just doing this for their own vanity, very little of them bring anything substantial to the table and most of them aren't known outside their small circle of friends Consultants developers and donors. This could be one of the worst elections in Kansas City history because so many unqualified people do not recognize their own arrogance and they are putting the city in danger because of it.

  7. Please NO Jim rowland. He got less votes than funkhouser!

  8. They are all Progressive, tax and spend pieces of shit that couldn't hit their asses with both hands in a hall full of mirrors.

Who gives a fuck who wins.

  9. Any "debates" are worthless and a complete waste of time.
If taxpayers really want to know about what the priorities of KCMO government are going to be for the next four years and how their money is going to be spent, they need to have meetings with the swells at the Chamber of Commerce, the bond attorneys at various large law offices, the "eco devo developers" who will be proposing the next round of heavily subsidized "projects", the usual east side grifters, the "urban futurists" who will be chasing the next big expensive fad, and all the rest of the gang who look at the city general fund as their own personal piggy bank.
NONE of these mayoral candidates have any serious ideas of their own, little interest in actual municipal public policy, or the guts to say NO to any of the above.
They are the usual empty vessels waiting to do someone else's bidding.
    It never changes.

  13. 6:13 nails it and I would add if any good candidate should appear the media, especially the Star would never stop trashing them.

  14. @6:13 has some questionable ideas and seems to be a defeatist. No time for that and no solutions. Try again!
