TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! FRUSTRATED KANSAS CITY RESIDENTS MARK MURDER MILESTONE UNDER MAYOR SLY!!!

Notice the uptick in Kansas City homicide during the X-mas season as the so-called progress to curb the local murder count is quickly evaporating.

To wit . . .

CRITICS OF MAYOR SLY AND COUNCIL REMIND VOTERS OF THE KANSAS CITY MURDER SPIKE UNDER THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION AS WE APPROACH THE ELECTION SEASON!!!

Accordingly, here's the link to more resources and a kick-off announcement about this local elecction accountability effort sent our way FIRST . . .

"There is a sad milestone that we will be reaching in KC, maybe this week. We are sitting at murder number 898 under Sly James. 900 will happen soon sadly.

"Residents have set up a Facebook page called Kansas City Survivor. It's using the same terms as David Hogg, Parkland Survivor. It brings attention to the absolute failure of Sly James over his two terms. It also draws attention to the people on the city council running for mayor. Two term council members (Reed, Taylor, Wagner) are noted for the 898 murders under their "leadership" and the one term members (Justice, Canady, Lucas) are noted for the 481 murders under their "leadership". They have pursued the wrong priorities for KC. They have chased jobs out of the city to other areas with tax after tax after tax, increasing the hopelessness of those that do not have the skills to work (many of whom likely attended KCMO schools). Their leadership has consequences and almost 900 families are paying for that."

"People of KC need to know who they are voting for and what the real record of our city council is."

Statement from the page . . .

"Poor policies, bad ideas, and no leadership leads to murders. The James Gang's prioritization and lies concerning street cars, high taxes, and airports drives business away . . .

"The list in the banner ad identifies which council people running for Mayor have presided over KC as it becomes more violent."

You decide . . .

Brought to you by the murder mayor of Kansas City - Sly James.

Good job on holding people accountable and checking the numbers. The sad thing here is that it looks like the murder count is not going to be part of the discussion in the upcoming election and that's unfortunate. We need to think about what will be done to stop the killing. While this might not be a record setting year for homicides, it's still a very high total and too much for a city of this size.

KC ranked 6th most dangerous city in America, that ranking is under the watch of Mayor Sly James. THAT is his real legacy.

Anonymous said...

KC's 25 million tourists need to watch out that they aren't killed.

Angela K. said...

4th District council member Jolie Justus was the only one who even tried to do anything about the murders. She gets too much hate on this blog but if you look you'll see at least she held community conversations and reached out to people while the 3rd District councilmen running for Mayor have been silent on this issue and don't have any real solutions.

Tracer said...

We're only going to talk about crime when it's too late. Counil has been too busy giving away free gifts to developers to really try and do anything to curb the homicdie rate. What's unfortunate is that the crime problem is so bad it's like all of the Kc politicans have agreeed to ignore tha it even exists.

Anonymous said...

Kansas City really isn’t that bad compared to Chicago or Baltimore or Detroit

Anonymous said...

898 murders is a small price to pay for the diversity we enjoy in Kansas City

Anonymous said...

^^^^ Those are the most violent and biggest cities in the nation and KC is right up there if you check the list of most violent cities per the latest FBI report and data per of murders per 100,000. Do just a little bit of homework before you spout off with something stupid like that.

Anonymous said...

Jolie did nothing useful either, and certainly has no solutions. Expensive comnunity conversations with no results while crime explodes.

But...but...but..we have a streetcar!

@7:46am
Actually Justus' "conversations" over an entire year were a sad joke.
Facilitate!
Dialogue!
Identify stakeholders!
It's a complete waste of time having community meetings, town hall meetings, meetings meetings, or anything else until some people who have actual responsibilities for city government (and that would be Sly, the council, and the Police Board) have the guts to actually identify the source of the horrendous murder problem in KCMO.
In 2017 there were 150 homicides in KCMO, over HALF the number of murders in New York City, which has a population 17 times as large.
88% of the victims were black.
At least that high a percentage of the perpetrators were black.
There are gang wars, gang initiations, robberies, car jackings, and all the rest.
And people continue to kill each other over nothing at all.
It's not everybody's problem and it isn't because of a bunch of ginned-up "historical" excuses.
It's because of a minority of a minority population which has no respect for themselves or anyone else, or even any respect for human life.
The "community" needs to do everything it can possibly do to help get those people off the streets.
Instead of making excuses and offering minimal cooperation with the police.
No one in KCMO government has the moral courage to cite the real problem, much less offer serious solutions.
Justus is a joke.

Angela K. said...

You disagree with talking to the community and that's fine. But name one thing that anyone else has done?

Jermaine and Quinton are absent from any discussion, they don't even talk about it and most of the killings are in their district. They're too busy working for developers. At least Council Member Jolie Justus is doing something to address the problem rather just let the killing to on without saying anything.

Anonymous said...

We need more police on the streets.

Period. Haven't seen any of the candidates talk about that seriously. Just the same old empty promises.

Anonymous said...

I'm no fan of Sly James, but blaming him for the number of violent crimes seems misguided to me. Specifically, what did he not do that he should have done, or did do that he shouldn't have done, that would have reduced the number of murders in KC?

Although certainly the buck stops with the Mayor and City Council there is plenty of blame to go around before we get to them:

1. The police departments in the metro area need to do a better job of coordinating resources across city limits and state lines to go after violent and dangerous people.

2. KCPD must get away from having so many specialty units and put officers and commanders back on the street to be more proactive in hunting down people committing crimes.

3. KCPD must rethink what type of calls from citizens actually needs a police officer to respond and begin use technology and their station personnel to handle more walk-ins and reports over the phone so officers in the field can be proactive and available to handle emergencies. Then these officers need to go out and stop everything that is driving or walking in these high crime areas.

4. KCPD needs to start arresting people. Its not their job to worry about the prosecution. Its their job to arrest and build cases on people.

5. The prosecutor needs to put people in jail and stop plea bargains. The lawyers have messed the system up. Get creative with charges if you have to but put people in jail. We need people doing 100% of their sentences, no credit for good behavior, no probation and no parole. The majority of crime in this city comes from people already known to the system.

6. Judges need to run for election and be held accountable for their record. The current system of just putting the same judges back on bench for decades is broken. Judges need to be held accountable for being soft on defendants.

7. Juveniles committing crimes need to be locked up and certified as adults whenever possible. We need to rethink juvenile justice when 18 year olds are out her shooting a cab driver 21 times. The suspect although an adult now was no stranger to the system.

8. Public Schools wont admit it but they are the ones actually creating a pipeline to prison by refusing to hold students and parents accountable. They are failing to educate the kids and sending them out into the world where all they know is gang banging. Go visit a school for the day and you will see why Kansas City is jacked up.

Now with that said, The Mayor and City Council are to blame for this mess, because as our elected officials, they have the power to make changes and they don't.

Media likes to focus on the murder rate to distract people (we the peoples) from all the other rampant out of control crime happening.

KCMO has become one sick city.

Sly is the on the police board, he tried to cut funding for police. He should have encouraged KCPD to put more officers on the streets. That's what he could have done. Instead, he just complained and focused on the choo-choo. THAT is why he is a disgrace.

Per Capita, Kansas City is, no doubt, extremely violent. Drawing a straight line reference from high taxes (Which I agree, is pernicious and destroys the middle class and wrecks the business' that create a good economy.) is a stretch.

The reason for high crime in Kansas City, is the not so much, anymore, invisible elephant in the room, the African American Sub Culture, which creates that crime.

That criminal, violent, murderous sub culture is lionized by the Liberal Media, Hollywood and politicians, who need the Black Block Vote in order to get elected on the Democratic ticket. The pretense of anything else, at this point, is not just disingenuous, it is retarded. Looking away from the necrosis, the smell of decay, the generational destruction wrought by policies that assign blame to ANY AND EVERYTHING BUT, the actual criminals and the sub culture that produces those criminals, which, again, is protected by the previous mentioned entities is insane. But, on we go.

The quid pro quo for continuation of the elevation of Progressive politicians to high station and "leadership", is dead, raped and broken bodies in the street, while the media and those same politicians continue to feed the narrative of "White Privilege", "Institutional Racism", "KKK around every corner", the lies about White on Black Crime when in fact Black on White crime is an endemic epidemic in the entire nation.

As demographics continue to change by way of the irredentist cultural imperialism of immigration policies, inflicted on the populace in spite of overwhelming disapproval of those policies, the violence, chaos and dysfunction will continue.

After all, the ends justify the means and the short term objectives of all knowing Progressive Commissars are far more important than the long term security and largesse provided by the Rule Of Law and the society it engenders.

Free Huey!!!!

Angela, I disagree that conversations solve anything. I also disagree that funding for endless civic organizations that produce zero results is a good thing.

You miss the point. None of them have done anything useful at all. Not Jolie, your candidate, or anyone else.

Anonymous said...

Sly James took police off the streets. He didn't work well with the police in general. He pushed zero energy into the problem while devoting all his attention to a narrow strip of development and cajoling the public into more crony slush funds.

You're welcome.

...and the Star provides cover for Slyme and the Clowncil.
Helling lionized Slyme and created a myth of brilliant character and leadership. The developers agree with the Star.
Missouri is now second most violent state in this country.
Continue to ignore murders and we can be number one.
Who will Star choose to endorse for mayor next year?

Anonymous said...

Crime is very very very high.
Some think 2019 will be 300 murders and 400 by 2020.
Sly not focused as he has time to freelance arbitration- crime not a 100% priority.
Plaza great example of crime starting to get out of control.
Very very very scary.
How to improve?
1. Facial recognition software on police cars.
2. Ring doorbells or equivalent given out free.
3. Listen to KC Star editorial board and do the opposite
4. Build huge jails and put cameras in cells with public access.
5. Elect mayor who promises to not moonlight.

10:00 is on to something there, if you think about it sLIE has allowed his murderous race of criminals to eliminate each other and with his abusive tax increases he’s actually trying to run the kolored peoples out of killa shitty, brilliant really when you think about it. Because in a city with momentum there really is only one way to move forward, and sLIE’s plan is slowly working. You really can’t have worthless murderous poor black people screwing things up, actually, you can’t have poor people period.

Anonymous said...

What did she do? She co-chaired the completely worthless blue ribbon anti-crime Task force with the cop hating Canady. Jolie owns this shit show just like Sly does.

If she was such a good candidate for public safety how come the police union hasn’t endorsed her yet?

Anonymous said...

sLIE has been the bestus mayor ever! He’s number one in murder, taxes, tax abatement for the rich and failure to maintain anything outside the downtown loop. There’s many more failures that he’s managed to be number one at but I’m just a poor commoner and have to go to work so sLIE has tax money to give away.

sLIE’s legacy is failure to do what the taxpayers wanted, he made this city dangerous. Sad.

We have 150 less officers under this mayor and council. A couple of council members have supported us and asked for more officers but the mayor, city manager and most of the council have brought this city to this spot. I have personally heard the mayor say that our department must learn to do more with less. Well Mr. Mayor, these bodies are on your hands. They are your true legacy. Each and every one of us must make this critical issue the number one issue in the next election. Should these candidates not be able to describe a substantive effort and success against crime they should not be considered. Look at their votes for more police officers. Use social media every day. Ensure that those who have not stepped up in the war against crime be ousted. The mayor has been an ass because we allow it. This needs to be on the front burner in every discussion.

Anonymous said...

The police, mayor, city council and least of all, Jean Petersucker Baker are not going to lower the rate of crime. The only way to get murdering hood rats off the street is for them to be killed by other murdering hood rats. Leave the hood rats alone

If Kansas City was serious about finding a solution to the murder rate, we should hire Alonzo Washington and put him in charge of doing so.

Anonymous said...

Taxes are up crime is up no sidewalks and you liberals voted for it. Alonzo Washington well let's just go from bad to worse.

Anonymous said...

I’m the end the reality is....that nobody can really stop the crime. Some mayors could come in and crack down a lot harder, but being aggressive in the fight against violence is racist to liberals. It’s kcmo and these dumb ass voters that wear dildos and have hot dog festivals when the Vice President comes to town have no hope for any blanket of safety.

You can’t change the culture of violence and fatherless homes on the east side. The snitches get stitches culture. The culture that says getting good grades and going to college means you are an Uncle Tom. The single moms who drop their kids off at the plaza and leave them for the police to babysit.

What is the one common denominator on the plaza right now when it comes to robberies and violence? Cmon progressives..it’s not heterosexual white fathers. You know...that evil patriarchy you screech about in your stupid pink hats.

Sly most likely tried his best.
Gave it his all.
While a mereoric high murder rate looks like failure to some-
To Sly he has done great things!
- caused the sale of bow ties to go up
- Coffin sales are up
- has so much time on his hands he can moonlight
- continues to fight for a new airport... even if airlines can’t afford it and the one KC has works great (but not enough donut shops)
- allowed hundreds of neat little scooters...
-helped ER rooms make money

The question is:

Will Sky arbitrate between scooter companies and those injured?

@10:27 AM is correct about Slie slowly driving the blight and the unwanted from downtown. The Clorox in the soup was one step in his plan. Closing Beardsley road, no affordable housing downtown, the attack on the homeless on 14th street, wanting the county jail moved, only investing in the entertainment district and not in the rest of the city, ignoring black on black crime are examples of what Slie has done or promoted in trying to push the blight out of downtown. The latest is the development along Troost which reinforces the Troost divide.

Let's not forget the failure of finding the black-on-white hate crimes of Jonathan Porter and Jeffery McDonald. Now add to that Harry Stone. People need to be fired over the the Stone mess.

Anonymous said...

What i hate is that this is one of the few places that consisently talks about the murder rate. From the other news outlets they ignore it most of the year and then file two stories.

If we want to to hold our elected officials accountable, we need to start with our media too.

Don't worry million dollar 25 year tax abated single family compounds are popping up all around the midtown area.

Anonymous said...

So the 3rd and 5th district Council members along with Sly believe that less policing is better. The theory is that the basic quality of their lives will be disrupted with more police. This consistent with the City not wanting secure entertainment districts...
It is amazing but true. "These folks have new cars on the west side and north sides of town. They don't need new streets or curbs or street lights. These folks over here are really hurting. Let's build them a new grocery store 3 blocks from the one that recently was subsidized by the city."

My wife works at a trauma hospital you've heard of. Every year gunshot victims get dropped off at he door (by dropped off I mean a Caprice Classic slows down and kicks out De'Dextron to the curb) that never make the news and don't get counted. This happens several times a year at a few different hospitals.

While the mayor has his faults, KCPD members who plan to retire need to thank him for being the first politician to make a MAJOR investment in adequately funding the retirement system. Several Chiefs tried to get the city to raise the amount being paid by the city into the retirement fund and Mayor James listened. He also added an additional step for sergeants which greatly enhanced the retirement for every topped out sergeant.

Many years ago the KCPD made the decision to terminate the 4 day work week for patrol officers because it had an adverse impact on maintaining adequate staffing levels. The KCPD reinstituted the program several years ago, against the analysis that clearly showed it was an inefficient way to deploy staffing resources. In addition officers when on training days only work 8 hours while getting credit for working a 10 hour day.

The city should demand to see the audit that was done that clearly shows this program is not efficient. The city stepped up and funded the retirement account now it's time for the KCPD to step up and dump the 10-4 plan. That is one way to do more with less. Obviously it will take more than this to turn this city around but it is one way the KCPD members can show that they are willing to sacrifice, this can't all be on the city.

Anonymous said...

This is the biggest bullshit post. The city agreed to fully funding the pension and fixing pay steps only after the Fraternal Order of Police sued the city over a healthcare decision they did not have the authority to make. This was only part of the entire discusssin, St. Louis Fire had just won a Missouri Supreme Court decision regarding the intentional underfunding of their pension funds.

I may not be there anymore, but I saw firsthand how the city finally paid the required contribution.

Anonymous said...

Whoever wrote this about the mayor has to be in city staff or part of the spineless command staff that did nothing over the years. God forbid they stand up and say anything, they won’t get promoted or the good jobs. I don’t know the exact number, but I’ve heard the city owes our pension plan over 70 million dollars they should have paid. How did the command staff let this happen? They have a responsibility to show leadership, but they didn’t.
