THE TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! CRIME HURT BUT KANSAS CITY DEVELOPERS KILLED WESTPORT!!!

Westport has lost its charm for most of its longtime denizens that maybe that's not a bad thing.

Things change and longtime favorite pubs depart whilst a new bevy of generic bar offerings emerges for this embattled party district. In the final analysis, all of these events could help locals find better alternatives than binge drinking, puking in public and possibly getting raped or beaten to death with very few people offering help.

More to the point, we're seeing a 2019 where the glory days of Westport are gone and the locale is dominated by corporate fare that has little connection to Kansas City people or traditions but instead pushes cheap booze and subpar appetizers on the NEXTGEN. Westport was always trashy but that was its charm. The new efforts to spruce up the place have all but destroyed any semblance of local appeal and have turned the place into just another local strip mall. Thankfully, this is no big loss.

Yes, crime was one of the biggest factors in pushing Westport over the edge and the latest tumult seems to be directly related to an off-duty cop shot to death among a crowd of hip-hop celebrants but the effort to move in luxury real estate and higher end living space also helped kill the appeal of local pubs offering fare that people can get anywhere else.

Now, what we're left with is a stomping ground where the NEXTGEN hooks up with some of the more dangerous denizens from surrounding neighborhoods as everybody waits for something horrible to happen around 3AM.

And so we offer this quick list of songs throughout the ages for a party place that peaked in the 90s like the practice of flipping speculative quasi-luxury real estate as the nation endures late capitalism.

Take a look and listen:

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe and fun Saturday night.

    1. A quick disagreement, young man getting beaten to death on the street after being over served as probably the last straw. Not worth the risk for most people.

Still, Johnny Kaw's isn't so bad. People should give it a chance.

    2. Sorry Wildman, Westport died with Craig Glazer.

  2. Yes, but Craig Glazer gave Westport the STD that killed it.

  5. yeah, i really miss having to go to the bathroom at the Hurricane
'possibly getting raped or beaten to death with very few people offering help' has been the motto of westport probably since before 1700s but certainly all of my memory, does anyone like bouncers?

  6. Westport died two decades ago. It has morphed into a gathering ground of beta male progressive hipsters, druggies, thugs, and violence. It used to be a place where men could go and drink with attractive women. Last time I tried to enjoy westport about 5 years ago the women....well....just think about the "women" who go to the anti trump "womens marches" with those stupid pink hats.

Anyway, it will never be what it was. The good times haved moved on to elsewhere. If the plaza crime is getting as bad as it has been what do you think is happening to westport?

  8. At 11:04 the beta male progressive comes out swinging to defend himself! He finds solace in westport for it is there he finds male friends to play tummy sticks with.

  9. Good Lord you people are impossible. Westport wants to try something new change things up and offer a different kind of entertainment than just the standard hipster bar and you people still complain. I remember when some of the new places were coming in a few years ago and the same thing was said. You've got to change with the times Westport realizes that and they're adjusting their plan. Yes there has been violence in the past and that's really unfortunate. But what I like is that the leadership is doing something to change that and not just sitting around in complaining. I think those readers who choose to go to Westport and see what's happening for themselves will be pleasantly surprised

  12. I was out on Westport last night from about 9:30 to midnight. Met up with a bunch of old friends who were in town.

We had a good time. It could've been 1985, 1995, 2005, wouldn't have known the difference. Same old Westport.

Yes after two or three quick double shots even red light districts appear to be new, shiny, wonderful, and vibrant.

  15. Westport has never “changed with the times.” It’s always been a decade late knock-off version of everyplace decent.

  16. If I say who I think is causing this I’m label a spammer, people know what’s up . Westport dead 💀

  18. The monopolization of Westport will produce larger bars that require less workers. Count the workers at McCoy's and there will be half that staff with the monopoly they throw up on that corner.
