RESOLVED: MISSOURI MUST REJECT CORRUPT ROCK ISLAND CORRIDOR

This entire scene was the helped along by a politico who is currently rotting in the Federal pen. And so, while the Kansas City Star advocates a statewide amenity . . . More practical souls might remember that this scheme was always vaporware and part of an extremely sketchy administration.

Here's the more upbeat take for optimistic souls:

Missouri should accept donation of 144-mile hike-bike trail | The Kansas City Star

Missouri faces a Feb. 21 deadline to accept the donation of a 144-mile stretch of the Rock Island rail line that would be converted to a hiking and biking trail. One researcher called the offer a "no-brainer."

  2. What will maintenance cost and who will pay for it? Without that information, and likely even with that information, it woule be foolish to accept.

  4. Will it get the Bike Nazis off our streets and sidewalks and out of Town?

  5. bike nerds will fly across the country to ride down the Katy trail and back using the Rock Island trail.
They already do this for the existing Katy.
You will double the tourist if you open the Rock Island trail.
Bike nerds have bucket lists. This will be one of them.

  6. "Rail-Trails" shouldn't even be a thing. These trails create trash and attractive nuisances that the adjacent landowners have to deal with. Rail-Trails very poorly maintained by nonprofit organizations who pay no property tax on thousands of acres of land and are funded mostly from grants paid for by your tax dollars.

Shut them all down, deed the land back to the adjacent landowners and let them maintain and pay taxes on them as it should be.

  7. ^^^^ AMEN! ^^^

KDOT's paid out millions to maintain and improve rail trails in Kansas on land they don't even own! They blew $750,000 on a 5 foot wide bridge over US 75 on the Prairie Spirit trail several years ago.
