NEW KCI AIRPORT UPDATE: KANSAS CITY REQUIRES $48-MILLION TO SAVE STALLED SINGLE-TERMINAL PROJECT FROM FAIL!!!

Today's airport meeting was a jovial affair and Council Dude Jermaine Reed got a new toy that he might or might not re-gift.

Of course we already know the stark reality . . . The airport is stalled and the only thing that's going to push it forward is something horrible that has the potential to deliver a major financial hit to KCMO.

The new KCI single-terminal airport needs $48-MILLION+ to keep moving given the long wait that contract negotiations and environmental approval is going to take . . . To get the money, City Hall must use "inter-fund" borrowing . . . AND YES, THAT INCLUDES MONEY FROM THE GENERAL FUND NO MATTER HOW MUCH MAYOR SLY AND COUNCIL LADY JOLIE JUSTUS DISAGREE!!!

Today committee members promised to keep looking at documents that really aren't worth the paper they're written on . . . The most important part of this project is spin and keeping the public stupid about how City Hall finances work.

Mayor James continues to repeat duplicitous claims about airport fund restrictions despite the fact that he has been proven wrong over and over again.

Meanwhile, with the exception of one other newsie . . . Most local media are content to repeat the lie that general fund cash won't be used for the new airport which is ABSOLUTELY INCORRECT AND NOTHING MORE THAN PROPAGANDA.

Here's where we stand now . . .

- There has been no progress with smaller airlines who don't want to pay the EPIC price tag.

- Bad planning and typically slow moving federal government authorities will keep environmental agreements moving at a snail's pace - This in and of itself constitutes a delay that City Hall also denies.

- Taxpayers will have to float this project to the tune of 48-MILLION BUCKS and so far there's NOTHING in writing that says taxpayers won't have to eat that money if something goes wrong.

Developing . . .

  1. 48 million? That's just the tip of the iceberg. It's going to cost a lot more than that to get this spruce goose up and running. Sorry KC, you bought the lie hook, line and sinker.

  4. Just send out some flyers with Sly's picture on it saying " I'm voting for this" and you will get your money!

  5. Dear council, I can tell you how to save 48-million-dollars instantly. This thing is like one of those gypsy scams where more and more money is needed for a provably false goal.

  6. Let's dish out some more tax incentives to developers that el' help!

  7. $48 million? Screw that. Start over with a clean sheet. It won't happen because this is meant to be the final feather in Sly's pimp hat.
It will get pushed through, and then Southwest will tell us to pound sand, and then we will have to make 2 connections to get anywhere.

  8. When will a councilman propose a new ordinance to raise property taxes to pay for all the fuckups and mega cost over runs voters didn't approve?

  9. HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHA

remember all the shills who pushed for the new airport. Never forget that they are actively working against you and the city

  10. Johnson County needs to put a proposal forward and put KCI out of its misery.
Transit would be better, leadership is already there and plenty of property.
Vote Yes on Johnson County airport and send a message to Sky that his ideas stink and his execution is worse!!!

  11. ^^moron. That's some of the dumbest shit I've ever heard. What makes you think a brand new major airport in JOCO would be any cheaper? All brand-new infrastructure & new runways? Were you born yesterday? Fucking idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I would say that JoCo could do a new airport cheaper that what KC is going to spend. All of the accommodations for subcontractors and subcontractors who would not win the business based upon their bids will cost $100's of millions .

    ReplyDelete
  13. 2:39 you forget that the employees at the airport come out of the general fund, we could save some money on that alone if joco built the stupid airport that nobody really wants.

Haven’t we already spent over 40 million on edgemoor???

  14. Cancel this whole thing. Once James is gone establish a bi state committee which will look at the proposals and rebid the airport if they deem it is necessary. The Advantage is that this Bi-state commission would be able to bid out the $1 billion plus airport to contractors and sub-contractors based upon the price/value of the bid. Eliminate all set asides...

  15. @2:25 Do you think you are the first person to suggest a new airport in Johnson County? The problem is, THERE IS NO PLACE TO PUT IT.
Guess who's airport is ranked best in the US? Denver. And it takes almost an hour from Downtown to get there. Now there is a solution.

    ReplyDelete
  16. There is a bi state committee , it's called MARC and it's run by Kaufman and Kemper.

  17. In the meantime the City keeps giving developers free 15 year tax abatements to build luxury apartments and the actual taxpayers in the city will have to pay for this.

  18. The airport fiasco is going according to plan. The airlines will not agree to the terms and Edgemoor will be forced out of the picture. Then the white knight, Burns and Mac, will swoop in and save the deal for Slie and the clowncil. The KCMO minions are just kicking this can down the road waiting for Edgemoor to bail and the minions do not care what the cost is to get rid of Edgemoor.
Slie is probably trying to figure out how to use go bond money for the 48 million.

As far as land is concerned Johnson County has the Sunflower ammunition plant by DeSoto which could be used for an airport. Fact is this would be a good use for the land.

  20. Here we go again. Using general funds that could be used to make Kansas City safer. We are the 5th most dangerous city in the country for God’s sake. When will the council stand up and call bullshit. Those that are running for mayor and council need to stand up and stop this mess. We voted to build an airport without using general funds. Now we find out the truth. If any of the current candidates vote to use general funds they need to be thrown out.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sunflower location would be good use of the land. And people in Topeka and Lawrence would be very happy. For everyone else in KC east of I-35, the current KCI is closer.

Other downsides are that it's a 10-15 year project due to the fact that it's a Superfund site and you need to add a couple of billion for making new runways.

    ReplyDelete
  22. This whole debacle is due to the city being involved. Airport should be a seperate entity, and let them run the airport business as it's own self. It would be simple bid process, no union promises, no small business promises, just best deal, not cheapest. Then we get what's needed, with little fluff. Let them figure out the funding.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'll trust city hall to build me an airport once they prove they can take the crap out of the house when I flush. First things first kids.....
