Kansas City Toasts The Death Of McCoy's

An artsy write-up after that fact that's still worth a look for those of us who might appreciate the insights of the "creative class" regarding the decline of a party district. Checkit:

Remembering McCoy's: The Famed Public House Will Close in Westport on Dec. 23

My hand hit the side of the glass. It rocked back and forth before deciding to tip on its side, root beer cascading toward my daughter. McCoy's Public House is where we spent my daughter's seventh birthday. It's where I knocked a full pint of the house root beer in her lap.

  1. That sucks. Nice place, but got overrun with stupid hipsters too much.

  2. Jeez. 60 comments on your last post, nothing but FB bs on this and now Twitter is on it too.

If KC loved this pub so much, why is it closing down because nobody was interested in buying their beer?

People love to weigh in after it's all over. Kind of pointless.

  6. I liked mccoys. Went a few times a year and it was always busy. I feel like there's something else going on. Oh well. RIP

  7. I tried to go a number of times, but my desire to wait in line for what is likely a top-notch beer is nil. It was always packed. I would suspect there is something going on with a tax situation. That's killed a number of places near me that always seemed busy. The ownership makes money hand over fist, doesn't want to part with it (and I don't blame 'em), but for now, you have to pay to play with the taxman.
