New push to get rid of Kansas City's 1 percent earnings tax alarms city leaders

  1. Maybe people would be more accepting of the tax if we didn't see it being wasted by continually giving the abject failure Jazz District money to grift away. Maybe if EVERY street got plowed when it snows. I work in Kansas. Their streets get plowed when it snows. All of them. Don't tell me how big KCMO is, you hire people, no excuses. Maybe if our fucking trash got picked up regularly. Maybe if when we call the cops because we are physically holding a car thief down we caught in the act the cops would actually come. We had to let the guy go. The cops simply refused to come. You wonder why people move to Johnson County?

  2. Democrim cities are shrinking because of the crime and murder theyve allow to happen, people are leaving big time

  3. The vast majority of those dollars pay for essential city services like police, fire and trash pick-up services.

“Any kind of cut to that form of revenue for the city really would be a serious and drastic blow to our ability to provide the most basic of city services that we provide for our residents,” said Chris Hernandez, spokesman for Kansas City.

The most basic of city services in KCMO is seriously lacking. Trash pickup, snow plowing, fixing failed infrastructure like sidewalks, effectively prosecuting criminals, and public safety are way down on the totem pole when compared to developer handout.

  4. But, but we have a plastic saxophone.

  5. How about looking at another city similar in size to KCMO that does not have an earnings tax. How do they do it?

  6. The Earnings Tax should be replaced with a property tax. We shouldn't be taxing income. We should be taxing what people buy with that income.

  7. Kansas city is mismanaged and the people are being robbed. Doesn't matter how much money is taken in, or where it comes from, the city will always be behind and is now a dump of a city only getting worse.

  8. ^^and yet your pathetic ass keeps coming back to a blog about it. What does that say about you loser? You played yourself!

  9. 7:01, money is fungible. Property tax and earnings tax revenue are used to support both worthwhile and necessary ("police, fire and trash pick-up") services and not worthwhile or necessary projects (streetcar, Jazz District, etc. ad nauseum). If the earnings tax goes away or is reduced, the city can just switch funding from the not worthwhile or necessary projects to the worthwhile and necessary services.

Reducing the money available to politicians to buy votes is an excellent goal.

  10. The Earnings Tax is the most regressive in the nation. When you start taxing the first dollar earned of the working poor or minimum wage workers to support entertainment districts, stadiums and show projects of city hall. The top 1% of KC are not paying taxes on most of their income. Maybe the progressives in Jeff City can help the regressive democrats of KC and repeal this tax.

  17. Just don’t build the airport and we will save money and the etax can just go away. Save more if we don’t. Build a new bridge, rename the paseo, let 18 th vine support itself or go away. The city will be flush with cash to fix the water infrastructure, lower bills,

  19. Can we get some funding going into revamping/ restructuring KCPS and giving our future a shot. Or is education a non-factor?

  20. Maybe if you worked in Missouri, you would care enough about the streets in Missouri to petition for your tax dollars to go there.
